Plug Into Prime Day

High-tech gizmos and gadgets have always been a big part of Amazon's Prime Day sale event, which is set for Oct. 13-14 this year. Not surprisingly, the company's own branded electronics — including Echo smart speakers with Alexa, Fire tablets and Fire TV streaming devices, and Kindle e-readers — typically get the steepest discounts (and most attention). But there are other tech bargains to be had, if you know where to look. Here are some of the most popular electronics we expect to see on sale during this year's Prime Day event. And don't miss All the Best Deals to Look for on Amazon Prime Day 2020.

This year, Amazon is already discounting the Recast aggressively ($100 off the regular price). Shoppers should also expect deals on the latest Fire TV Stick devices.

Last year, shoppers saw a significant savings ($250) on an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S9, which featured a super-speed dual-aperture camera, edge-to-edge immersive screen, fast wireless charging, and 64GB of internal memory. With newer Samsung models released this fall, including the Samsung Galaxy S20 5G, more discounts on older phones like the Galaxy S9 are likely.

Kids' Tablets

Amazon's devices for kids, especially tablets for kids, also have been among the best sellers on Prime Day. The Fire 7 Kids Edition Tablet, which included one year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, a kid-proof case with a built-in stand, and a two-year, worry-free guarantee, was marked down to $60 from $100. Or, you could buy two for $100. Expect similar discounts this year on the Fire 7 as Amazon makes way for the new Fire HD 8 Kids Edition ($140).

What Else to Watch For
Amazon

New Amazon Services

Amazon is getting into the gaming business with Luna, a new cloud-based service that promises unlimited access to games — including the popular Assassin's Creed, Sonic, and Resident Evil series — for $5.99 per month. At present, Luna is available for only a limited number of advance subscriptions, but that may change by Prime Day. Another new Amazon offering currently available only to select members, the Halo health and wellness tracker ($65), is worth watching for future availability and promotional discounts. Halo promises to monitor everything from your body composition to the tone of your voice (seriously) to keep you in optimal health.

Refurbished Amazon Electronics

Refurbished electronics are always a good way to save a few bucks, and Amazon is already discounting some Kindle and Ring devices ahead of Prime Day.
