It's a cliché to say that there are two types of people, but seriously: There are two types of people. There are those who worship nugget ice and those who don’t know what it is. If you don’t get the hype, chances are high that you’ve never tried it.

If you do, you'll be pleased to know that you can score a five-pound Chick-fil-A bag of ice for less than two bucks. Here's what you need to know about securing a bag of Chick-fil-A ice to take home.

Why Is Chick-fil-A Ice So Special?

The experience of this type of ice (perhaps you call it pellet ice, or maybe even pebble ice) is far superior to cubes or rectangles. Just ask Sonic Drive-In, Jimmy John’s, or Chick-fil-A, who make such ice a part of their standard beverage operations. This ice is easy to crunch, and — I swear! — it makes soda less watery. I'm sure of it.

Because countertop ice makers are so expensive, having pellet ice at home also feels unattainable. Like something you can't acquire unless you're at a restaurant — but that’s where Chick-fil-A comes in.

Does Chick-fil-A Sell Ice?

The Chick-fil-A ice maker must be working overtime in there, because yes, you can get some Chick-fil-A ice to-go at most locations. They'll sell it to you in a 5-pound bag for $1.59.

You can order Chick-fil-A's bag of ice in the restaurant or drive-thru, the same as you would for any other item. Online ordering works, too. It's so straightforward that it feels like less of a hack and more like something from Chick-fil-A's secret menu. Just be sure to check your location ahead of time to make sure they sell it.

Which Chains Sell Nugget Ice?

Chick-fil-A isn't the only chain to sell nugget ice. Sonic Drive-Thru has its own devoted pellet ice following, and customers can pick up 10-pound bags of Sonic ice at some locations for around $3. Zaxby's sells nugget ice in an 8-pound bag for $2, while a medium-sized bag of nugget ice at Which Which is around $3.

Rumor has it that Starbucks might be changing to nugget ice as well ... what a game-changer that would be. Let's get the rest of the chains in this country on board.
