Chick-fil-A doesn't have a large menu. Unlike other fast food chains, they pretty much stick to one thing — chicken — and do it really well. So when there's a new addition to the menu, it's an exciting thing.

This fall, there's a brand new Chick-fil-A sandwich: the Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich. It's a new twist on the old reliable Chick-fil-A fried chicken sandwich, and by name alone it sounds divine. I decided I had to try it for myself as soon as it was released. Here's what I found out when I tried Chick-fil-A's new pimento cheese sandwich (including a hack to make it taster even better).

What's on Chick-fil-A's Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich?

The Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich is a Southern-inspired mashup of sweet, spicy, and savory. The classic Chick-fil-A fried chicken breast is topped with pimento cheese spread, pickled jalapeño slices, and honey.

Pimento cheese is a Southern staple that's been trendy all around the U.S. in the last few years. Chick-fil-A's version is made with cream cheese, mayonnaise, shredded cheddar cheese, mild roasted green chiles, and bright red pimento peppers. It's a pretty close approximation to other pimento cheese spreads I've had.

The pickled jalapeño slices take the place of pickle slices under the chicken breast, and the honey is drizzled over the chicken. It's all served on the usual toasted Chick-fil-A bun.

What Does Chick-fil-A's New Sandwich Taste Like?

If you're already drooling just thinking about those chicken sandwich toppings, chances are you're going to love the Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich. It's a great addition to the Chick-fil-A menu that's creamy, tangy, and sweet.

I had a hunch about something though, so I ordered the new sandwich the way it comes on a classic fried chicken breast, and one that subbed in the spicy fried chicken breast with the same toppings.

My instinct was correct: The Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich tastes even better if you order it with the spicy chicken breast.

That's because the pickled jalapeños don't really have much heat at all, so you get a better balance of flavors with the spicy chicken's breading. All of the sandwich's flavors are amplified, from the sweetness of the honey to the tanginess of the pickled jalapeños, when they're on top of the spicy chicken breast. Even the pimento cheese tasted richer and the roasted pepper flavor stood out more.

If you're not up for heat, though, the classic Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich is still worth trying. My only complaints are that the pimento cheese is a bit runny and the shredded cheddar in it doesn't melt at all. But it's a rich and sticky sandwich that's perfect if you've gotten a bit bored with Chick-fil-A's lineup lately.

How Much Does the New Chick-fil-A Sandwich Cost?

Prices vary by location, but the new Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich will cost around $7.

At my location in the suburban Midwest, the Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich cost $7.09. The same sandwich with a spicy chicken breast instead of the classic is $7.39. You can also get it with grilled chicken breast instead of fried for $8.05. If you make those into meals with fries and a drink, they cost $11.09, $11.39, and $12.05 respectively.

When Is the Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich Available?

The release date of Chick-fil-A's new Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich is August 28, 2023, which means it's available right now at locations nationwide.

It's a seasonal fall item, though, so that means it'll only be around for a limited time. It's scheduled to be available for 11 weeks until the beginning of November. If demand is high, some locations — or the entire chain — could run out of pimento cheese before that time, so if you really want to try the new 2023 pimento cheese sandwich, you should get to Chick-fil-A ASAP.
