Buttery Perfection

Sometimes, all you want is a biscuit. Nothing can compare to that tender, pillowy snack, whether you slather it in jam, gravy, or just plain butter. But unless you're lucky enough to have a Southern grandma in your kitchen every morning (or tubes of biscuits ready to go in your fridge), you're going to have to hit up a fast-food drive-thru to get your biscuit fix.

Thankfully, there are lots of restaurant chains that serve biscuits all the time. Even if you don't live in an area with some of the smaller biscuit-focused chains, there are plenty of nationwide spots with delicious biscuits — and one is bound to be near you. Here's where to find some of the more drool-worthy fast-food biscuits money can buy.

1. Bojangles

Bojangles is a Southern chain with about 800 locations in 17 states. It's primarily known for its fried chicken, but its biscuits are the real menu standout. They're always large, puffy, and have a brown top with a little bit of crunch around the edges, making them irresistible. They're available all day, in breakfast sandwiches, in sweet Bo-Berry biscuit form, or as our favorite: the gooey, savory pimento cheese biscuit.

2. Biscuitville

If biscuit is in the name of the chain, you know it's got to be good. Biscuitville has been baking biscuits at its locations in the Carolinas and Virginia every 15 minutes since 1966. Similar to Cinnabon or Auntie Anne's, there's a "biscuit window" where you can watch them mix, roll out, and cut biscuits all day long, so you know they're fresh and warm when you get them. It's probably the most homemade-like fast-food biscuit you can get, so if you're lucky enough to pass one, always stop — especially if a spicy chicken and honey biscuit sounds good to you.

3. Popeyes

People love Popeyes' biscuits almost as much as its fried chicken. They're "some of the best" fast-food biscuits out there, and they are really easy to split open to make your own little chicken-and-biscuit sandwiches. Since Popeyes is so ubiquitous, they're easy to get your hands on, too, which is always a plus in our book. Don't sleep on the sweet strawberry-iced versions they have occasionally, either.

4. Tudor's Biscuit World

Ask anyone from West Virginia what their favorite biscuit is at Tudor's Biscuit World, and you'll get an immediate answer like "the Thundering Herd" or "Tootie." The drive-thru chain is practically a way of life in Appalachia, and the loyal following for its biscuits is completely warranted. They're huge, almost as big as your hand, and very fluffy while also being sturdy enough to hold in all kinds of sandwich fillings. When you're choosing your biscuit, opt for any with a fried hash brown patty (drool!) or get the blackberry sauce-covered sweet biscuit.

5. KFC

KFC has one of the most consistent biscuits in the fast-food world. You always know what you're going to get, and it's one of the best sides you can choose at the chicken chain. They're always a little lumpy on top, which is a very endearing quality in a biscuit, and they're pretty salty, which only makes them better when you drizzle honey all over them. KFC's biscuit is a perennial favorite, and very accessible nationwide.

6. Hardee's

Hardee's (or Carl's Jr., depending on where you live) biscuits are almost designed for slapping on some sausage or jam. They're fresh, light, and very moist, and thread the needle between a sweet biscuit and a savory one. That makes them a great blank canvas for the chain's over-the-top, giant-sized breakfast sandwiches. Don't sleep on the biscuits and gravy, either, something many fast-food chains don't do very well.

7. Chick-fil-A

It's hard to beat chicken and a biscuit. Some of the best fried chicken filets come out of Chick-fil-A, and it has some of the best biscuits to match. It's a buttermilk-based recipe for a little tang and a tender texture, which complements the pickle-brined chicken perfectly, even in the tiny size Minis sandwiches made with chicken nuggets. You don't need chicken to make these biscuits worth eating, though — they're buttery on their own and great with a drizzle of honey.

8. Church's

Church's is another Southern fried chicken chain, and those restaurants always seem to know their way around a biscuit. Here, they all get a coating of sweet honey butter when they come out of the oven, so they're great for anyone with a sweet tooth. They're more like drop biscuits than any other chain on this list, so they tend to have irregular tops with extra brown crunchy bits. This isn't a totally uniform biscuit, and that's a beautiful thing.
