I've definitely made some version of TikTok's viral Boat Dip before, but I'm pretty sure the taco dip I tried a few years ago didn't include Rotel. Since I feel like all the best dip recipes include Rotel tomatoes, I was hooked as soon as I saw TikTok user @austindennis88 dump that can of maters and green chiles in.
I'll also admit that the southern accent and Miller Lite shirt that says, "What the hell is going on y'all?" sucked me in, too. I mean, c'mon. This guy absolutely knows a good dip when he tries one.

How to Make Boat Dip
TikTok recipes seem to consistently follow a throw-a-bunch-of-stuff-together-and-there-you-go format and, to be honest, as a busy mom of four, I'm here for it. Even as someone who likes to cook, those throw-together dishes make life easier.
So, without further ado, here's how to make boat dip:
- Dump 24 ounces of sour cream into a bowl.
- Stir in an 8-ounce bag of shredded cheese and a can of Rotel tomatoes.
- Mix it up well, then add a packet of taco seasoning.
- Stir it again. You're done.
- Break out the tortilla chips and go to town.

Although TikTok boat dip is a dip that's certainly enjoyable on the water (hence its name), you do not need to own or be on a boat to make or eat this. I could see this viral boat dip being a hit on game days or potlucks, too. Still, I took it to a pool party and it was a hit among the adults, children, and toddlers, which almost never happens. This boat dip recipe took me less than five minutes to whip up and wasn't a pain to bring along with me.
Does Boat Dip Taste Good?
I like this stuff. It's got a really mild flavor and when it's cold, it's super tasty. Once it sits out for a little bit though, I'm not as into it. Personally, I think that there's a lot of sour cream in this, and it could use some more flavor, maybe with some green onion, more green chilies, or even some drained and rinsed black beans for texture.
But it was definitely good, and everyone I fed it to raved about it, so I'd absolutely make it again.
