Ever thought of dumping a tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil in your coffee? Starbucks has, and the chain has begun selling it too. Starbucks' new line of Oleato drinks sport at least a tablespoon of olive oil in each and are available now in Italy and coming to the U.S. this spring.

The three drinks — Oleato latte with oat milk and olive oil; Oleato ice shaken espresso with oat milk, hazelnut flavor, and olive oil; and Oleato golden foam cold brew with two olive oil servings — are due to arrive in Southern California this spring (so trendy influencers, prepare yourselves), though details of the U.S. launch have yet to be unveiled. The oil-infused drinks are also expected to arrive this year in the U.K., Middle East, and Japan.

If you're wondering why Starbucks is adding olive oil to its drinks, blame interim CEO Howard Schultz. During a trip to Sicily, Schultz met an olive oil producer who turned him on to the practice of having a dose of extra-virgin olive oil each day, and of course, his next thought was adding the stuff to coffee. 


It isn't such a crazy idea, as fans of Bulletproof brand coffee have been adding butter and MCT oil to their morning joe for years. Now the big question is whether customers will line up to try the new drinks when they come to their local Starbucks.
