Super Sonic

Sonic may be known for its burgers, cherry limeade, and gooey mozzarella sticks, but there is no reason to overlook its breakfast options. Though I'm not a huge fan of lunch at this establishment, the breakfast menu at Sonic is incredibly strong. You'll find them slinging cheese and fluffy eggs on slices of thick Texas toast, along with crispy bacon, breakfast burritos, French toast sticks, and iced coffee. Here's everything you need to know about the fast-food chain's all-day breakfast, including a ranking of seven items from Sonic Drive-In's breakfast menu.

But First: Does Sonic Have All-Day Breakfast?

We know why you're here. There is, of course, only one question on everybody's mind right now: Does Sonic do breakfast all day?

I'm happy to say that, yep, Sonic's breakfast menu is served all day long. Breakfast after 10 a.m. is a treat, doubly so when you’re faced with a restaurant that does it well. Something about Sonic's breakfast food just tastes better when it's a completely inappropriate time to be eating it. It doesn't hurt that they sell Green Mountain Coffee, either.

So what are Sonic's breakfast hours? You'll be able to order off the breakfast menu from 6 a.m. to close, depending on the location. That means you can have Cinnabon Cinnasnacks pretty much any time you want.

1. The Best Sonic Breakfast Item: Cinnabon Cinnasnacks

Price: $3.59

Calories: 570

These are dangerous, and by far the best item on Sonic's menu. The filling is lights-out, and the dough’s texture is perfect. You’ve got cream cheese frosting for dipping, and because it’s served in a much larger portion than you need, prepare your fingers for a little swim. And let's not forget how perfect that gooey cinnamon roll filling is.

2. SuperSonic Breakfast Burrito

Price: $4.69

Calories: 590

I can’t imagine there’s a better fast-food breakfast burrito than this one right here. It’s really got it all: sausage, golden tots, scrambled eggs, melty cheddar cheese, diced onion, jalapeño, and tomato. The tomato-onion-jalapeño combo basically creates pico de gallo, and between the crispy tots and the melted cheese, this is a major home run. Swap the sausage for bacon and you’ve got a grand slam.

3. Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Brioche Breakfast Sandwich

Price: $4.29

Calories: 450

Sonic's brioche breakfast sandwich actually doesn’t feel too far off from a New York bodega BE. The low-quality brioche bun aside, the bacon is crunchy and the cheese is melty. You can do a lot worse than this at other chains.

4. Bacon Breakfast Burrito

Price: $3.59

Calories: 470

Sonic’s standard bacon burrito has but one crime: It’s boring. I recognize that some people don’t want to load their burritos with jalapeños and tater tots first thing in the morning, but surely there is a middle ground. I mean, how do you even eat a breakfast burrito without salsa?

5. Jr. Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Breakfast Burrito

Price: $2.19

Alas, this is just a slightly more boring version of the Bacon Breakfast Burrito. But, it’s cheaper.

As far as sausage breakfast burritos go, Sonic’s is better than most. The flour tortilla is nice and spongy, and that melted cheese hits the spot. There’s also a Jr. Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Breakfast Burrito, and I probably should have gotten that one.

6. French Toast Sticks

Price: $3.59

These are so close to being good. The exterior crunch is really great, but the inside is just thick and bready. So, so bready.

Another issue here is that if you, like me, are not enough of an adult to eat something like syrup without spilling it on your clothes, this is a death trap.

7. The Worst Sonic Breakfast Item: Sausage Breakfast Toaster

Price: $3.99

Calories: 580

There is a Bacon Breakfast Toaster as well, but I was trying to switch things up with this order, and the luck of the bacon draw went to the BEC. Coincidence that it did so well while this is down here? Probably not. Sonic’s sausage is no picnic.

I must have been chewing this thing for at least an hour. It’s interesting that the bun is made of French toast, like a much dumber version of the McGriddle, but wow, so much chewing. Between the eggy bread, actual eggs, cheese, and sausage patty, there’s just a ton to chew on.
