Pancake Mix Recall

Pancakes are supposed to be light and fluffy, not a federal health risk — but here we are. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) elevated the recall of the Quaker Oats Pancake & Waffle Mix recall to its highest risk level.

Why Did the FDA Upgrade the Quaker Oats Recall?

On February 13, 2025, FDA upgraded the recall of Quaker Oats’ Pearl Milling Company Original Pancake & Waffle Mix to a Class I recall, which means there is a high risk that consuming the product could cause serious health consequences or even death, particularly for individuals with severe milk allergies.

Quaker Oats first initiated the recall on January 14, 2025, after a retail partner discovered undeclared milk in the product, prompting concerns for consumers with dairy allergies.

Which States Are Affected by the Recall?

About 10,000 boxes of Pearl Milling Company Original Pancake & Waffle Mix were recalled, specifically the two-pound size.

The affected mix was sent to stores in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Utah, and Wisconsin and may have been on shelves since November 2024.

If you picked up a box in one of these states, it’s worth checking the label.

What’s the Risk if You Eat It?

While no illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported since February 2025, consumers with dairy allergies or sensitivities are warned not to consume the product.

After consuming the recalled mix, the FDA advises those who experience symptoms such as swelling, hives, difficulty breathing, or anaphylaxis to seek immediate medical attention.
