Aldi Discoveries

Aldi may not have the cultural cachet of its sibling Trader Joe's, which Aldi bought in 1979, but the German chain knows how to keep its customers interested. Aldi's owners, Karl and Theo Albrecht, have expanded the chain to more than 1,700 U.S. locations and have made little quirks like a 25-cent cart deposit work for American shoppers who value its low prices above all else. With a constantly rotating array of items, Aldi is bringing in new wares all the time. Here are some low-priced new arrivals worth adding to your list.

Deutsche Küche Smoked Bratwurst or Knackwurst

Price: $2.49 each
What's the point of having a German-owned grocery store nearby if you can't get decent sausages out of the deal? Getting a pound of bratwurst or knackwurst at hot-dog prices (or better at 16 per pack) is definitely one of the better reasons to check in on Aldi during grilling season.

Fresh Maui Pineapple Atlantic Salmon on a Cedar Plank

Price: $9.99 per pound
You'd be hard-pressed to find this price at a club discount store, never mind at a place that will give you salmon with a plank to grill it on. One of Aldi's seasonal specials, this pineapple-marinated salmon is just one reason to check in on Wednesdays and see what's coming up next week.

Simply Nature Family Pack Ground Beef

Simply Nature Family Pack Ground Beef

Price: $4.49 a pound
While a four-pound package is just under $18, note that it's organic, grass-fed beef that's also 85/15 lean. Suddenly, it seems like a bargain, especially if compared to high-end markets.

Parkview Black Forest Hot Dogs

Parkview Black Forest Hot Dogs

Price: $3.49
The bad news is that you only get six per 12-ounce package. The good news is that they're footlongs that are twice as substantial as Aldi's bratwurst. If you don't mind subbing German frankfurters in for the U.S. hot dogs they inspired, your cookout guests may never know the difference.

Happy Farms Preferred Farmhouse Assortment
