McDonald’s has the best breakfast in the fast-food world. It was so popular that the chain made it available all day long, and sales soared.
While the pandemic put an end to McDonald’s all-day breakfast (R.I.P.), the chain has just announced that it’s expanding its breakfast menu by rolling out a fan-favorite breakfast item nationwide.
Here’s the scoop on the meaty news.
McDonald’s is bringing back the Steak, Egg, and Cheese Bagel across the U.S., starting today. It’s a steak patty, folded egg, and American cheese on a buttered bagel with two interesting additions: slivered onions and McDonald’s “breakfast sauce,” a creamy, mayonnaise-like fast fast food take on hollandaise. Think of it like fancy steak and eggs, but in a much cheaper and easier-to-eat-on-the-go form.
We used the McDonald’s mobile app to check, and sure enough, the Steak, Egg, and Cheese Bagel is now available at multiple locations nearby, when it definitely wasn’t in the past.
People have made the McDonald’s Steak, Egg, and Cheese Bagel a cult classic. It’s actually been available for years now, but only in certain regions, and only at certain locations, seemingly dependent on whether the franchise owner wants to carry it. So there’s kind of a treasure hunt feel, with steak bagel fans going on pilgrimages to locations that offer it. There’s even a Facebook group dedicated to finding McDonald’s bagel sandwiches (shouldn’t be hard, now).
Yep! If McDonald’s version of “steak” doesn’t get your mouth watering, there’s also two other breakfast bagel sandwich options: sausage, egg, and cheese, and bacon, egg, and cheese. All bagel sandwiches come with the fan-favorite breakfast sauce, but neither the bacon nor the sausage version has onions like the steak.
This whole bagel sandwich rollout is part of McDonald’s celebrating “National Egg McMuffin Day” on March 2. On that day, you can score an Egg McMuffin or Sausage McMuffin with Egg for only $1 if you order through the McDonald’s mobile app. That’s a really good deal, but we’re way more excited about the bagels, let’s be honest. If delivery is more your thing, you can get BOGO free Sausage McMuffin with Egg sandwiches when you order in the McDonald’s app from March 3-30.
Plus, the company announced that Krispy Kreme is rolling out to more locations, including New York City. The donuts are already available at McDonald’s locations in Chicago, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and Louisville. By the end of 2025, over half the locations in the U.S. will offer donuts.
