An Arm and a (Table) Leg

Ikea prides itself on Scandinavian ingenuity that helps keep prices low, and many shoppers think of it a refuge for cash-strapped college kids and young professionals. While many of our favorite Ikea products won't put much of a dent in your wallet, there are also some surprisingly pricey buys at the Swedish furniture giant. Here are 21 of them, from luxurious lamps to sectionals big enough for your extended family and then some.

Ikea

Nutid French Door Refrigerator

Price: $1,799 | Buy It
Ikea sells appliances to go with its economical kitchen designs, but they're often overlooked. One of its priciest offerings is this 20-cubic-foot, Energy Star-certified stainless steel refrigerator. Reviewers give it high marks, and it gets a thumbs-up from expert testers who say it's quiet and keeps a uniform temperature.

Ikea

Mausund Mattress, King

Price: $1,099 | Buy it
Ikea's mattresses often get a lot of love from reviewers, but if you want to splurge on one of its most expensive models in hopes of better quality, the Mausund awaits. Made of 85% natural latex, it's actually on the inexpensive side for mattresses in its category. Ikea also backs mattresses with a 25-year warranty and 365-day "love it or exchange it" return policy, so it's not all that risky of a buy.

Symfonisk Speaker Lamp

Price: $179 | Buy it
Futuristic-looking lamps are nothing new at Ikea, but speaker lamps are. Experts call this mashup a "great piece of design" that's as functional as it is pretty, with a Sonos-compatible speaker standing in for a lamp base and a hand-crafted glass lampshade on top. One downside: no voice controls for Alexa or Google Home devotees.

Ikea

Stockholm 2017 Sofa

Price: $1,699 | Buy it
This pillowy perch is Ikea's priciest fabric sofa that isn't a sectional, and it's made with a soft velvet cover. But whether the splurge is worth it is debatable — several owners warn that the fabric is also a magnet for lint and dog hair that's impossible to keep clean for long.

Ikea

Tillagd Flatware

Price: $50 | Buy it
Maybe $50 doesn't seem like all that much for flatware, but considering Ikea also sells a 20-piece set for $10, the Tillagd set qualifies as high-end here. Made of stainless steel, each utensil has an eye-catching matte black finish that reviewers don't mind paying a little extra for.

Ikea

Kvalfjord Bed Frame, King

Price: $869 | Buy it
This is a princely sum indeed for a store that sells a full-size bed frame for as little as $99. Your money will get you a fully upholstered king-size bed frame, solid oak legs, and a tall button-tufted headboard. A slatted bed base and mid-beam are included.

Ikea

Sensuell Cookware Set

Price: $129 | Buy it
It ain't All-Clad, but this small stainless-steel cookware set is still the priciest cookware you can get at Ikea. Reviews are mostly positive, but some owners grouse that at this price, the pan should come with a lid, too.

Källkrasse Comforter, King

Price: $279 | Buy it
Want to stay toasty when the weather cools? This comforter with a cotton cover is stuffed with 90% duck down and 10% duck feathers, filling that accounts for the higher-than-normal price tag. "It's like I'm a duckling snuggling in my momma's arms," raves one reviewer.

Ikea

Genevad Armchair

Price: $699 | Buy it
Sure, you can nab Ikea's iconic Poang chair for about $100, but it's not exactly a chair you can sink into. The Genevad is made from full-grain leather, and the deep, wide seat will encourage you to stay awhile. Similar chairs at other stores often retail for $1,000 or more.

Ikea

Lidhult Corner Sleeper Sofa

Price: $3,829 | Buy it
This is the most expensive sofa Ikea offers, and possibly its most expensive piece of furniture, period. Made from top-grain leather, it's a sectional that's big enough for a crowd, and it even hides a sleeper sofa. Still, this is a lot of cash to drop on a new, relatively unvetted Ikea sofa — for a safer, cheaper bet, the Kivik sectional is worth a look.

Ikea

Ikea PS 2014 Pendant Lamp

Price: $129 | Buy it
Ikea says this statement lamp was "inspired by science fiction movies," and the design definitely does evoke a certain Death Star-like mystique for its enthusiastic owners. Tugging on the strings changes both the shape and brightness, too.

Ikea
Ikea

Evedal Floor Lamp

Price: $239 | Buy it
The Evedal lamp definitely is a foray into higher-end design and materials for Ikea: You'll get a handblown glass shade, marble base, solid oak stand, and brass accents. "Maybe pass them down to the next generation," Ikea suggests. A table lamp is also available.

Ikea

Mörbylånga/Baltsar Dining Set

Price: $1,643 | Buy it
The Mörbylånga, made with a layer of oak and dovetail joints, has a more solid, handcrafted feel than many of Ikea's other glossier tables, and owners sing its praises. Pairing it with a half-dozen pricey Baltsar chairs make this Ikea's most expensive dining set, but there are plenty of more economical seating options, too.

Ikea

Nordli Chest

Price: $419 | Buy it
We're big fans of Ikea's inexpensive but sturdy dressers, and the 12-drawer Nordli gives you an enormous amount of space for the price. Of course, you'll need to remember to attach this behemoth to the wall to prevent any dangerous tipping, especially if you have young kids.

Ikea

Liatorp TV Storage Combination

Price: $1,249 | Buy it
If you just can't get enough of the farmhouse look, this is as close as contemporary Ikea gets to rustic chic. Love the look, but don't have room for such a massive entertainment unit? The Liatorp series has plenty of smaller pieces, too.

Ikea

Fyrtur Blackout Roller Blind

Price: $179 | Buy it
At first glance, it's hard to figure out why the Fyrtur roller blind is so much more expensive than the Tretur, which is also a blackout shade. Turns out the Fyrtur can be opened and closed with a remote control – great for couch potatoes or high, hard-to-reach windows. But that's not all – the blinds can wirelessly connect to a smart-home hub, so you can also use Alexa or Google Assistance to raise or lower the blinds.

Ikea

Havsten Indoor/Outdoor Conversation Set

Price: $1,135 | Buy it
Patio furniture is notoriously expensive, but Ikea offers only a few sets or pieces that top $1,000. This one combines unique seats made of an adjustable elastic mesh fabric with water-repellant cushions. The covers are removable and machine-washable, too.

Ikea

Lisann Throw

Price: $60 | Buy it
Again, $60 may not seem unreasonable for a throw, but since Ikea sells several sub-$15 options — including a well-reviewed fleece blanket under $3 — $60 does seem like a splurge. For the money, you get a thick, fur-like blend of modacrylic and polyester that would be right at home in any ski chalet. It also gets near-perfect marks from owners who say it's amazingly cozy.
