Little Blue Who?

Chick-fil-A may not be known for innovation, mainly due to its stone-aged core belief system, but the brand seems desperate to change that narrative. After launching a streaming service nobody asked for, they’ve taken the way that other fast-food chains have gone and opened a test kitchen (like the one I visited at KFC Headquarters).

Curious about it? Here are six things you probably didn’t know about the newest Chick-fil-A concept, Little Blue Menu.

1. There Is Only One Location

Chick-fil-A began testing Little Blue Menu in 2021 in Nashville, Tennessee, but that one is no longer in operation. Today, you can find the only Little Blue Menu location in College Park, Maryland. Reddit, naturally, is already abuzz

2. This Is a Test Kitchen

Because this is a test kitchen, there’s a lot of wacky stuff going on here with the intention of, you know, testing things. That means all kinds of exclusive goodies that go beyond the classic Chick-fil-A lineup, with plenty of limited-time options and new drinks.

3. You’ve Got Options Beyond Chicken

You know all those billboards with a bunch of cows painting words in blood-red lettering? And, for some reason, the cows are only a little bit good at writing the English language, with only a few letters and words written incorrectly? Well, the idea behind those ads is that cows want you to eat at Chick-fil-A because they don’t sell burgers

Not at Little Blue Menu, baby! We’ve got tots. We’ve got wings. We’ve got cheeseburgers. We’ve got pizza. We’ve got cheeseburger pizza. Little Blue Menu is lighting it up in all kinds of directions.

4. Little Blue Menu Is Entirely Digital

Little Blue Menu operates like a ghost kitchen — available only for digital ordering and delivery. You’ll need the Chick-fil-A app to order. Catering is available, too.

5. The Name Comes From a Piece of Chick-fil-A’s History

S. Truett Cathy opened his first Chick-fil-A location with little blue menus. Originally called The Dwarf House, the restaurant became well-known in Hapeville, Georgia. Now, Little Blue Menu is a nod to that piece of Chick-fil-A’s past

It’s bound to cause some confusion with the “blue plate” concept that is famous in the restaurant world, but I am not Chick-fil-A’s PR person and was unable to warn them about that one.

6. You May See This Food at Standard Chick-fil-A in the Future

Test kitchens are meant to do just that: test. If a product is successful enough, it’s entirely possible you’ll see it on the menu of your local Chick-fil-A. Are we finally going to get burgers one day?

Those cows might be on borrowed time.
