promising young woman poster
Focus Features

‘Promising Young Woman’ (2020)

This movie is just such a great time. Carey Mulligan is terrific in this dark comedy thriller about a traumatized girl who sets up some satisfying revenge against her enemies.

the pink panther (2016)
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer

‘The Pink Panther’ (2006)

Look, this movie isn’t very good, but Beyoncé is in it, and it’s worth it just for the scene where Steve Martin tries to pronounce the word “hamburger.”

wind river
The Weinstein Company

‘Wind River’ (2017)

Doesn’t seem like we’ve been able to go a single minute without somebody talking about how good “Yellowstone” is these days, eh? If you like Game-of-Thrones-Montana-Style, take a look at this Taylor Sheridan joint from 2017 starring Elizabeth Olsen and Jeremy Renner.

Enjoy that Nick Cave and Warren Ellis score, while you're at it.

the imposter
Indomina Releasing

'The Imposter' (2012)

This is simply the most insane documentary I’ve ever seen in my life. If you don’t know what this is about, don’t read anything. Don’t look up a thing. Go in blind. It’s about as nutso as can be.

lake mungo
Lions Gate Home Entertainment

‘Lake Mungo’ (2008)

Here’s the deal. This movie is scary as hell, and I’m a tough audience. The Australian mockumentary is a must-watch for horror fans.

the king of staten island
Universal Pictures

‘The King of Staten Island’ (2020)

You’re probably sick of hearing about Pete Davidson, which is understandable. It’s a bummer for all of us, but he’s actually pretty wonderful in this, showcasing a more mature, gentler side than we might be used to. Judd Apatow is in the director’s seat here, and, yeah, he’s still got it. It’s almost worth it for the Action Bronson cameo alone.

the invitation (2015)
Drafthouse Films
uhf
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc.

‘UHF’ (1989)

“Weird Al” Yankovic was given the opportunity to make a movie in the late 80s, and it’s still funnier than most stuff today. If you’ve read even one second of my other content, it shouldn’t surprise you to learn that I had this movie on repeat growing up. RIP, the farce genre.

lucky number slevin
The Weinstein Company
bubba ho-tep
MGM/UA Entertainment

‘Bubba Ho-Tep’ (2002)

This movie is about an Elvis impersonator (played by Bruce Campbell) and a guy who thinks he’s JFK meeting in a retirement home and teaming up to fight a real mummy. Not sure what else you need.
