7 Delicious and Creative Recipes for National Avocado Day

A loving husband took to Reddit in search of the best avocado recipes to make for his pregnant wife, who developed a strong affinity for avocados. The thread of recommendations took off, and Redditors offered plenty of creative recipes that featured avocados and, surprisingly, the Mexican dip that the green fruit is famous for was nowhere to be found (well, that's guacward). 

To celebrate National Avocado Day, we compiled a list of some of our favorite Reddit-inspired recipes.

With their creamy texture and mild flavors, avocados lend themselves perfectly to smoothies — and the possibilities are plentiful. Redditors suggest protein powder, bananas, chia seeds, oat milk, or cacao nibs as add-ins to make the perfect avocado smoothie. 

Alternatively, you can add sweetened condensed milk with the avocado in your blender to make sinh tố bơ, a Vietnamese variation.

Turn avocado into a decadent dessert and capitalize on its creaminess by making an avocado chocolate mousse. Redditors say the combination is surprisingly delicious.

If you believe that anything tastes good deep-fried, give avocado fries a whirl. Although, you'll probably want to dip these in ranch rather than ketchup.

You can slice an avocado and add it to your salad as a topping, or you can blend one up with olive oil, lemon, garlic, yogurt, and salt and pepper for a tasty dressing to lather over your bed of greens.

Elevate your morning bagel by spreading cream cheese and avocado on it. The combo is particularly tasty on an everything bagel, but you can always opt for Trader Joe's Everything but the Bagel seasoning if you use a different bagel flavor for the same effect.

Whether you're adding some lox to your avocado and cream cheese bagel or you're combining salmon and avocado on crackers, a sandwich, or a rice bowl, Redditors says this combination is both yummy and good for you (both are excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids).
