Air travel is dicey right now, and Delta Air Lines is loosening its cancellation policy to encourage more customers to book tickets.

Thanks to omicron and the skittish travelers that have come with it, Delta has extended the expiration date of its travel credits. Passengers can book flights with travel credits, received if a flight is canceled, through 2023 for travel through 2024. That includes outstanding travel credits for previously canceled flights as well as any cancellations through 2022.
If you're wondering what the catch is, well, you're right that there is one: If you book basic, no-frills economy tickets, you'll also incur a cancellation fee that will be deducted from the travel credits. Keep that in mind while you're browsing fares.

The move to entice customers comes after Delta reported a better-than-expected profit in the final quarter of 2021 thanks to the holiday travel season. However, it projects losses for the first quarter of 2022 thanks to omicron. Roughly 8,000 Delta employees tested positive for COVID-19 over the last month, leading to flight cancellations.
