Wazzaap With Discontinuing These Foods?

The 1990s was a very bizarre decade, with fads and trends sprouting up and dying faster than anybody could keep track. Often themed with wild colors and wacky fonts, the most popular foods of the ‘90s tended to reflect the decade pretty accurately.

Can you taste that nostalgia? Here are some of our favorite '90s foods that are no longer with us.

Pizzerias Pizza Chips

Pizzerias Pizza Chips

Keebler took a big shot in the '90s, allegedly making these pizza-flavored chips out of real pizza dough. I have so much respect for this. Boy oh boy, they were good. Keebler was part of a big buyout in 1996, and not much was heard from Pizzerias after that.

Butterfinger BB’s

Butterfinger BB’s

Why did they take these from me? Why, Ferrero Group, why? Butterfinger BB’s were perfect, taking the Buncha Crunch approach of crunchy little chocolate balls. Except, filled with that delicious tooth-cement that Butterfingers are packed with. Please come back to me, BB’s. Maybe leave the incorrect apostrophe behind though.

SnackWells

SnackWells

Remember in the 1990s when "healthy" meant low fat and full of sugar? SnackWells cookies filled that terrible niche, and after 30 years of baking up a whole assortment of snacks reminiscent of plastic, SnackWell's called it quits in 2022. Who on earth was buying them anymore?

OK Soda

OK Soda

Gen X was extremely into the counterculture movement of the '90s, and Coca-Cola decided to take a shot at appealing to that with this now-discontinued soda. It was extremely strange. Perhaps the most unsettling of all is the fact that the word “beverage” is in quotes.

PB Max

PB Max

I’m not actually familiar with this one, but it sounds terrific: A Twix-ish creation, with a cookie center covered in peanut butter, chocolate, and tiny cookie crunchies. First step: Invent time travel. Second step: try a PB Max.

Orbitz (lava lamp drink)

Orbitz

Orbitz only existed for about a year, but it turns out nobody wants to drink a lava lamp, which is exactly what Orbitz looks like. Those things are gelatinous fruit-flavored blobs, by the way, not boba.

Urkel-Os

It’s actually very surprising that this cereal only lasted a year, despite the popularity of the famous “Family Matters” character. I at least hope the person in charge of marketing, when they saw the failure of this product, asked themselves if they did that.

Josta

Josta

60 mgs of caffeine! Good for you, the ‘90s. I bet that Panera took a lot of lemonade inspiration here.

Squeezeit

Squeezeit

Born in '95, the grave by '01, and revived from '11 to '12, Squeezeits were a cornerstone of elementary school lunch boxes. Once the plastic top was ripped off, you’d need to squeeze the plastic bottle of neon color in order to drink it. A nightmare. I used to love them.

Nestle Wonder Ball

Wonder Ball

The minute I see the words “Wonder Ball,” I can hear that theme song blasting in my head. This was a candy of Disney’s creation, similar to Kinder Surprise, which came with a tiny plastic toy in the middle. Wonder Ball had the same sort of thing going on, with a small toy, a sticker and some crunchy candy inside of a big chocolate ball.

Fruit String Thing

Fruit String Thing

Betty Crocker whipped these up, a fruity, stringy snack that came stuck to paper in different shapes, like feet, or people, or any other simple geometric designs. It only made it a few years past the ‘90s.

Tongue Splashers Gum

Tongue Splashers Gum

Tongue Splashers debuted in 1993 and had a good run of almost 20 years, which is shocking to me. These things stained your teeth and tongue on purpose. It feels hard to believe that parents were dying to buy this type of thing for their kids.
