Fraught With Fraud
From pro athletes and hurricane survivors to the world's biggest retailer and, well, just about anyone with a phone number or a Facebook account, it seems everyone is now a target for swindlers and con artists. Technological advancements, which have been occurring at a breakneck speed, have made it easier than ever to scam, and the pandemic presented new opportunities for fraudsters. Authorities recently charged 47 people with conspiracy after they defrauded the federal government out of $250 million that had been earmarked for low-income children, adding to the laundry list of the biggest and boldest scams in recent years.
