Recall Alert

Reusable water bottles are a must-have accessory for almost everyone nowadays. But would you believe that your water bottle could actually result in vision loss?

That’s what’s happening with some Walmart water bottles, according to a recall notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission

Here’s what you need to know if you’ve purchased Walmart water bottles in the past.

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission

What’s Wrong With the Water Bottles?

The lid on the reusable water bottles can “forcefully eject, posing serious impact and laceration hazards,” according to the USCPSC. That happens specifically when people try to open the capped bottles after food, carbonated beverages, or perishable beverages (like juice and milk) are stored in them for a while.

So far, there have been three reports of consumers who have been injured when the lid was shot off the bottle upon opening and hit them in the face. Two people have suffered “permanent vision loss” after being struck in the eye.

Which Product is Being Recalled?

The recall is limited to Ozark Trail 64-ounce insulated stainless steel water bottles. The bottles are silver with a black, one-piece screw on lid. They are labeled with model number 83-662 on the packaging, but there is no model number on the bottle. On the side of the 11.5-inch tall bottle is an Ozark Trail logo.

Where Were the Water Bottles Sold?

The recalled Ozark Trail water bottle was sold exclusively at Walmart stores nationwide, as well as on Walmart’s website. They’ve been available since 2017 and they were priced around $15.

What Should I Do if I Have a Recalled Water Bottle?

You should stop using the recalled Ozark Trail water bottle if you have one, says the USCPSC. You can return it to your nearest Walmart location and get a full refund. Anyone with questions about the recall can contact Walmart at 800-925-6278 from 7 a.m. through 9 p.m.
