What Tomatoes Are Being Recalled?

Tomatoes from two different providers have been recalled: One from Williams Farms Repack LLC, which also includes tomatoes sold under the Hanshaw & Capling (H&C) Farms brand name. These were sold primarily in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina, according to the Food and Drug Administration

The second recall is for tomatoes sold by the Indiana-based tomato supplier Ray & Mascari Inc., according to the FDA.

Why Are The Tomatoes Being Recalled?

These tomatoes have been traced to possible salmonella contamination, which happens often in raw meat and seafood or fruit and veggies that have touched contaminated water during their processing.

While healthy individuals might only experience symptoms like fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and possibly bloody diarrhea, Salmonella can pose a serious threat to certain groups, according to the CDC. Older adults, young children, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of severe or even fatal infections.
