Soda isn’t getting cheaper. In fact, it’s costing more and more: A 2-liter bottle is currently topping out at around $2.40, according to recent data from the  U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

So when I saw the viral video by TikTok user @Jordan_The_Stallion8 that promises to get every last drop out of your soda can, I had to try it. After all, we’ve all been there — you’re sipping your soda, and by the time you get towards the bottom of the can, the bubbles are long gone. You've now wasted precious drops that were fairly pricey.

The video has been viewed over 2 million times. It shows the TikToker opening a can of soda, then tilting a glass horizontally and putting the angled pull tab against the rim. He sets the glass down, and the pull tab holds the can in place while soda streams into the glass (no splashes!). What’s the point of this little magic trick? Well, supposedly it keeps the soda from getting too foamy and being wasted.

“It pours it perfectly, there’s no overflow, this doesn’t touch the can, and it empties out the cup completely, and I’m not gonna lie to you, it’s the best thing ever,” the TikToker says.

I had to try it myself. I opened my can, positioned the tab vertically, then flipped it. You do seem to need to hold on to the can at first to make sure that it doesn't spill, but I quickly was able to let go and watch what happened. Guess what? No extra fizz at the top, and the can completely emptied out.

Some commenters had legitimate questions though, such as what do you do if there’s ice in the cup? We surmise you put it in after. But a few people mentioned that their minds were just, well, blown.

As for me, well, I’m not sure I’ll bother with this hack in the future. Yes, it does seem to get every bit of soda out. But if you don’t have the right size glass and position things perfectly, it’s a spill waiting to happen — and then you’ve just wasted an entire can. Either way … a fun party trick?

That wasn’t the only things-I’ve-never-thought-of-doing part of the video. The TikToker shows that if you rotate the pull tab 180 degrees, it’s the perfect place to insert a straw. If you care about making sure your straw never moves around, perhaps it’s a game changer for you. My verdict on all of this? They're fun little hacks, but the risks aren't worth saving a few drops of soda.
