Next time you drive up to Target to pick up an order, you may be able to have your favorite Starbucks latte delivered right to your car along with your laundry detergent and shampoo.

Target employees who run your pickup order out to your car now can also bring food and drinks from Starbucks, thanks to a partnership with the Starbucks cafes in many Target stores.

Target has been testing the service at a few stores for some months after receiving feedback from customers who wanted the ability to get Starbucks beverages at Target drive-ups. It's been a long-time request, Chief Operating Officer John Mulligan said during a Nov. 16 call with analysts. "'I'm getting milk, I'm getting diapers, why can't I get my latte to go as well?'"

The test has proven quite popular, even with a pared-down drink menu, Mulligan said. About 240 Target stores in nine states have begun offering the service as the holiday season gets underway, just in time for Christmas shoppers to avoid in-store holiday crowds by picking up their purchases.

To use the service, shoppers must first place a drive-up order with a participating Target store. When you indicate in the Target app that you're on your way to get the order, a prompt appears to place an order from the Starbucks cafe with the option to "add for Drive Up." A barista then makes your beverage so it's hot and ready when you pull up.
