Last week, millions of pounds of meat and poultry products were recalled because of possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. BrucePac, a pre-cooked meat company, issued the recall after the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) found the harmful bacteria during routine testing.
Now, the nationwide recall has expanded to include nearly 12 million pounds of meat and a lengthy list of ready-to-eat meals sold at many of the country's biggest grocery chains, including Walmart, Costco, Trader Joe's, Kroger, and more.
Listeria is particularly dangerous for vulnerable groups like pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Thankfully, there haven't yet been any reports of illness due to this recall.
