The popular fast-casual restaurant chain known for smash burgers, crinkle cut fries, and frozen custard is giving away free burgers to celebrate the end of summer. Here’s how you can get yours — and what the catch is (because there’s always a catch).

What’s the Shake Shack Deal?

You can score a free burger or fried chicken sandwich from the chain’s limited-time BBQ menu lineup. There are four sandwiches you can get for free:

  • Smoky Classic BBQ Burger with a beef patty, bacon, American cheese, pickles, crispy onions, and smoky barbecue sauce
  • Carolina BBQ Burger with Fried Pickles with a beef patty, pepper jack cheese, bacon, fried pickles, and a sweet and tangy Carolina-style gold barbecue sauce
  • Smoky Classic BBQ Chicken with fried chicken breast, bacon, American cheese, pickles, crispy onions, and smoky barbecue sauce
  • Carolina BBQ Chicken with fried chicken breast, pepper jack cheese, bacon, fried pickles, and a sweet and tangy Carolina-style gold barbecue sauce

What’s the Catch?

Of course there’s a catch, but this one’s not too bad. To get your free burger or sandwich, you have to spend $10. And honestly? That’s not difficult at Shake Shack, which isn’t exactly cheap. Grab fries and a shake, and you’re already over $10, so enjoy your free burger.


You’ll also have to use the code “SUMMER” when you order to get the freebie. But unlike many fast-food deals, you don’t have to be a member of any loyalty program in order to get it. Just use the code on the in-store kiosk or order online or through the mobile app.

When Can I Get Free Burgers?

BBQ burgers and chicken sandwiches are already free with this deal at Shake Shack. You have through September 1, 2025, to get yours. And you know what? The only limit is that you can only get one free burger or sandwich per order. So you can make multiple orders for free food as long as you do it before Labor Day and use the code at checkout.
