Things aren’t looking good for Rite Aid. The pharmacy chain filed for bankruptcy on May 5, the second time in just seven months. Now, we have confirmation that more than 100 of its 1,240 locations are closing. Here’s what we know, including the list of store closures.
Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy earlier this month in order to restructure and reorganize its debts. The company cited financial woes “intensified by the rapidly evolving retail and healthcare landscapes” as the reason for the filing.
It’s looking increasingly likely that Rite Aid will ultimately go out of business. The company is trying to find a buyer for all or some of its stores, according to USA Today. Any stores it doesn’t sell will eventually be closed for good, complete with going out of business sales. So unless a buyer (or multiple buyers) steps up soon, most, if not all, stores could close in the future.
So far, Rite Aid has announced that 115 locations will be closing. Unfortunately, we don’t know when that will happen yet. But because customers rely on pharmacy services, Rite Aid acquired $1.94 billion in financing to keep stores operating while the company tries to find a buyer. If you shop at any of the Rite Aids on this closures list, it’s best to call the store to find out when they’ll be closing, or if they already have.
