Classic cars provide a chance to hold history in your hands. And you don't have to be a devoted collector or a celebrity with a garage full of expensive cars to take one for a spin yourself or be chauffeured by a knowledgeable driver. Here are some companies around the world where you can rent a car dating back decades to help celebrate a special occasion or enjoy a getaway with flair. Where: Cities in the U.S., Canada, and U.K.

The world’s largest car-sharing marketplace, Turo, offers classic car rental options for wedding days, photo shoots, or special occasions such as a birthday or anniversary around 11 U.S. cities from Atlanta to Boston. Popular models include 1960s Ford Mustangs, 1970s Chevrolet Corvettes, and the Porsche 911 introduced in 1964. Drivers must be 30 or older in most cases to book specialty cars, starting at around $135 a day.

DriveShare

Where: Los Angeles, Miami, Phoenix, Austin, Chicago, and Atlanta

DriveShare is another car-sharing community offering rentals directly from owners for drivers 25 and older with a valid driver’s license, credit card, and proof of insurance. Rentals start at around $125 per day and can go upward of $800 depending on the model, with options ranging from a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air to a 1919 Ford Model T and a 1966 Porsche 912.

The Zimmerman Automobile Driving Museum

Provence Classics, founded in 2017, has cars for self drives, weddings, rallies, and events that are meticulously restored to feature modern upgrades while maintaining their historic charm. Customers can choose pickup and return or have a car delivered and picked up for an additional fee. The DRIVAR rental marketplace started in Europe and expanded to U.S. bases including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Houston. Ride Free started as a motorcycle tour company — the oldest in the United States, it says — but also offers car tours and rentals for 14 days or longer.
