Go With Your Gut

At this point, you’ve probably been somewhat curious about prebiotic soda. Turns out, horrifyingly enough, that there are trillions of microorganisms in your digestive tract, and they need to be nourished.

A soda company from Texas is here to help with that. Poppi Soda's ingredients include things like unfiltered apple cider vinegar and natural flavors rather than corn syrup. This nourishes the good bacteria in your gut, promoting healthy digestion and immune function.

In other words, Poppi is here for your gut health, hot off of an appearance on "Shark Tank." But is Poppi Soda good? What does Poppi taste like? I've got all those answers and more: Here are all 10 Poppi soda flavors, ranked.

Best: Ginger Lime

I really, really like this. Almost all Poppi flavors are good in a not-bad-for-a-healthy-alternative sort of way, but Ginger Lime is legitimately awesome.

That slight spice from the ginger feels just right alongside the more wholesome ingredients, and I legitimately felt better after drinking one. Placebo or not, I’ll grab a Ginger Lime Poppi again soon. It's the best prebiotic soda they've got.

2. Doc Pop

Mimicking the flavor of Dr. Pepper is a genius move on Poppi's part. All those 23 flavors sort of taste adjacent to stevia anyways, so this really works. It's truly not that far off from a real Dr. Pepper. Way to go, Pop.

3. Orange

One of the most noticeable successes that Poppi’s got under its belt is its lack of traditional soft drink sweetness. Because you’re left with more vinegary, dry flavors, you don’t crave the second sip as hard as you do with a classic soda.

In other words, you can actually sit back and enjoy this one without manically gulping the whole thing down and then getting a stomach ache.

4. Root Beer

For a split second, this tastes exactly like normal root beer. The artificial sweetness crawls its way back in, but it's not as strong here as it is in some of the others.

There's a gingery, earthy flavor here too, and it meshes well with the root beer.

5. Strawberry Lemon

Lemon and strawberry both feel like they’re battling at an even 50% here, and I’m into that. It’s not a flavor I see a lot in the beverage world. The taste of the stevia lurks a little stronger in this can than it does in others, but that’s not a huge detriment.

Poppi’s whole vibe really works with those lingering sweet flavors, and everything tastes right in line here.

6. Classic Cola

A little something about me: I don't drink much soda, but Coca-Cola is one of my favorite treats in the world. I don't let myself have it too much anymore because it's basically like drinking a can of battery acid, but when I do, it's transcendent. To me, nothing can measure up to a fountain Coke over crushed ice.

Poppi is no exception. There's no world where I'd drink this instead of an actual Coke, especially since it's my infrequent little treat. This is in the same ballpark, but it ain't foolin' me.

7. Watermelon

I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t this. This watermelon flavor is simultaneously subtle and pronounced — there’s a lovely natural sweetness from the cane sugar and those subtle, fermented flavors from the apple cider vinegar shine through.

8. Raspberry Rose

Looooooooootta rose here. Lotta raspberry, too. This is probably the Poppi with the most flavor, but I’m not sure that’s a good thing.

This one ends up tasting quite sweet; certainly more than I can handle in a whole can.

9. Cherry Limeade

This is the flavor where stevia is the most pronounced, and that’s just very much not my thing. Cherry limeade really isn’t my thing either. None of it is my thing. Don't think I can blame this one on Poppi.

10. Grape

As a new Poppi favor, this was very hard to acquire. It's got great reviews and was sold out at every store I went to. So I figured this one must be good.

My oh my. I don't get it. There are a few types of grape flavors out there in the world, and this one takes me straight back to Flintstones vitamins. My least favorite.

This flavor has haunted the corridors of my nightmares for decades, and to see it so well-received by the general public baffles me.

This one's a skip.
