Recall Alert

Electric pressure cookers and milti-function cooking appliances have surged in popularity over the last decade. Many households use them, but people sometimes forget that pressure cookers can be dangerous. Case in point: SharkNinja just issued a recall of millions of electric multi-cookers because of dozens reports of serious burns and lawsuits. Here’s what you need to know, and how to determine if your pressure cooker is recalled.

Why Are the Pressure Cookers Being Recalled?

The lid of the appliance can be opened when the cooker is still pressurized, causing an explosion of dangerously hot food, according to the recall website set up by SharkNinja, the manufacturer of the electric multi-function cooker. Normally, electric pressure cooker lids have safeties that don’t allow you to open them while the contents are still pressurized.

There have been 106 reports of burns from the appliance, including more than 50 reports of second- and third-degree burns, according to the recall notice by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Those injuries have led to 26 lawsuits being filed against SharkNinja.
