More Arches To Come

Just when you thought every highway exit already had a McDonald's, the fast-food giant has decided it's simply not enough. MickeyD is about to go full Monopoly board on the U.S., with plans to open 900 new restaurants across the country.

Here is everything you need to know.

What Has McDonald’s Announced About Its Expansion?

The fast-food giant is going for the biggest expansion in its modern history. With more than 38,000 locations in over 100 countries already, McDonald’s plans to hit 50,000 global restaurants by 2027.

In the U.S. alone, 900 new stores are expected to open over the next few years.

Where Will the New McDonald’s Locations Be?

The focus is on fast-growing states like Texas, California, Florida, and Arizona, where the population is booming and people are apparently always hungry. One of the first new stores opened in High Springs, Florida, and more locations are expected to hit suburbs, travel stops, and smaller towns that McDonald’s previously skipped over.

How Many People Is McDonald’s Planning to Hire?

The company is also hiring roughly 375,000 workers this summer and continuing to invest in employee education through its Archways to Opportunity program, which has already distributed more than $240 million in tuition assistance.

How Is Business Going for McDonald’s Right Now?

McDonald’s may be expanding, but it’s not exactly riding a hot streak. In Q1 2025, the company reported a 3.6% drop in U.S. same-store sales — its worst domestic result since the early pandemic days. Global revenue also slipped by 3%, and net income fell by 3% compared to last year.
