McDonald's Wants You Back, And Is Spending $100 Million to Lure You After E. Coli Outbreak

Perhaps not surprisingly, the E. coli outbreak linked to onions in McDonald's Quarter Pounders, which resulted in one death and numerous hospitalizations, was bad for business. Really bad. 

But now the fast food chain is doing something about it. 

The chain is dropping $100 million dollars with the goal of getting you back, that's what. But don't get too excited...

Well, about that. McDonald's want to get you back, yes, but not by sharing the wealth. McDonald’s is spending $35 million on marketing plus $65 million directed toward franchisees that lost business due to the outbreak. But there might be an upside for consumers other than being hammered with advertising. 

One of the focuses of the marketing campaign, television ads, will focus on one good buy — a 10-piece McNuggets deal for $1, This can be found in the McDonald's app and will be available until early December. Never fear. McDonald's says that recent tests of the chain's food are E.coli-free. Quarter Pounders (complete with onions, which were the initial contaminated product) are back on all menus.
