Fast food chains frequently introduce new menu items that you can only get for a short time, but adding something new to the menu permanently happens much less often. That’s the route McDonald’s is taking with its latest hot new thing: chicken strips. Here’s what we know about these tasty new dippers.
McDonald’s new chicken strips are called McCrispy Strips. They’re the first new item on the menu since 2021, which coincidentally was the debut of the McCrispy sandwich (admittedly our least favorite fast-food chicken sandwich.
McCrispy Strips are made with 100% white meat chicken in a breading that packs a black pepper punch. You can even see the pepper in the press photos, which has us hoping that they’re similar to the black pepper McNuggets from Japan we tried at the McDonald’s headquarters.
Of course McDonald’s couldn’t release a new chicken strip without a new dipping sauce! It’s called Creamy Chili Dip, which isn’t a very descriptive name, but it sounds very interesting. It’s Asian-influenced, with soy sauce, onion, garlic, and sesame oil in a mayo-based sauce with red jalapenos, according to its nutrition information.
You’re probably going to have to wait a little bit. McCrispy Strips will be in McDonald’s nationwide on May 5, 2025, but there are reports that they’re available now in some locations. If you’re curious, try ordering online or in the mobile app to see if they’re available near you already.
McDonald’s prices are set by franchisees, which is why sometimes a Big Mac is a dollar cheaper than the same burger at a location only a couple miles away. So we can’t say exactly how much McCrispy Strips will cost, but we do know that they’ll be available in three- and four-piece boxes. We expect the price will be around $5.
Yes, it does! McDonald’s actually announced late last year that Snack Wraps, a cult favorite that was discontinued in 2016, are coming back in 2025. It seems like McCrispy Strips are going to be the chicken inside those wraps. Though we don’t have a definitive date yet for that release, McDonald’s gave us a clue last week that they’ll be back before October.
