For adventures that involve hauling lots of stuff around, there's nothing like a travel backpack to free your hands for wrangling kids, luggage, tickets, and so on. Enter the Matein backpack from Amazon, which has garnered over 78,000 very positive buyer reviews. As I discovered on a recent trip, this product is the stuff of which travel backpack dreams are made.

For starters, it's got tons of storage. There are three main compartments and three smaller ones — including one that nestles into the small of your back, perfect for safeguarding a passport or wallet — and two mesh side pockets for a water bottle. The larger compartments have even more pockets and places to organize stuff, so you're never digging around for a phone charger, lip balm, or other small items. I've stuffed so much into this backpack, and it's never gotten that distended look that other packs do when you're carrying around a lot of gear.

It's also super comfortable, with ample padding in the straps, carrying handle, and regions where the pack hits your shoulder blades and lower back. I appreciate the details, like a strap so you can attach the pack to your luggage handle and a USB charging port on the exterior of the pack with a cable tucked inside. Finally, it's made of a durable, water-resistant fabric and comes in a half-dozen stylish color choices.

But don't take my word for it. Those thousands of Amazon shoppers have given this popular purchase a 4.8-star average score. One reviewer notes: "If I could give this backpack 10 stars I would. It completely exceeded my expectations in quality, design, color, and price. The amount of pockets and space that this backpack gives me is amazing!!"

Another says she packed it with "winter clothes for a three-day trip, toiletries, entertainment (in this case a knitting project), a hat and a scarf, and my laptop, planner, iPad, and Bluetooth keyboard as well as other miscellaneous items. It's definitely very full but feels strong and sturdy on my back."

Smart shoppers should note that the price has dropped many times — as low as $17.33 according to Amazon price tracker Camelcamelcamel — so waiting it out could net you a better bargain.
