As many retailers close locations or even shut down completely, some companies are bucking the trend. Discount stores, from TJ Maxx to dollar stores, are expanding thanks to the rising price of goods and consumers' tightening wallets.
Marshall's is the latest off-price store to announce that it's opening new locations in August. Here's where they'll be and when you can go bargain hunting.
Marshall's is one of the discount retailers that fills a need for shoppers whose budget is tightening — or people who just love finding a great deal. So as inflation and tariff uncertainty push prices higher, people are more likely to check Marshall’s for things they need.
The chain's parent company, TJX, also owns chains including TJ Maxx and HomeGoods. It just announced an ambitious plan to open 1,300 new TJ Maxx stores worldwide in the future (with six opening this month), so clearly they're seeing an increase in demand.
Marshall’s buys overstock and discounted items from other retailers, then passes on some of those savings to shoppers. Shopping at Marshall’s is like a treasure hunt because what you see will be different every time.
Like sister company TJ Maxx, Marshall’s sells clothing, seasonal decor, housewares, and beauty products. Honestly, we can’t even tell the difference between the two stores when we’re shopping in them anymore.
All of the grand openings announced on Marshall’s website are opening in August 2025. Considering how consistently the company is opening new locations right now, we’d bet there are more planned for September and October, too.
