Check Your Lunchboxes

Granola bars are easy to throw in your kids’ lunch bags, but a large recall just hit one brand. According to a recall notification from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, some MadeGood granola bars may contain pieces of metal — and the FDA just updated the recall's risk level.

Here’s what we know, including how to get a refund if you bought the recalled product.

What’s Wrong with the Granola Bars?

Some MadeGood granola bars, which are manufactured by Riverside Natural Foods Inc., may contain pieces of metal. There have been seven complaints, according to the company, and no injuries have been reported. After an investigation, the company determined that the metal pieces were small, flat brush bristles, and have “remediated the issue” so that it will not happen again.

What's Been Updated?

On Feb. 11, 2025, the FDA upgraded the recall to from Class III to Class II. According to the FDA, Class II recalls may "cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences." Thankfully, it also states that the "probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote."
