Retail chains are closing locations all over the place. Just recently, Joann went out of business completely, Big Lots closed most locations in bankruptcy, and Kohl’s closed over two dozen stores last month.
Next up on the list is Macy’s, an iconic department store. The chain is in the midst of downsizing, and the company just released a list of store locations on the chopping block. Here’s what we know about the closures, and the full list of stores.
Over a year ago, Macy’s announced that it was starting a revitalization plan to keep it profitable in a world where department stores aren’t nearly as popular as they once were. Part of that plan was to close approximately 150 Macy’s locations that were “underproductive”.
Recently, Macy’s released a list of 66 stores that will close as part of the first wave of closures. The closings are designed to “return the company to sustainable, profitable sales growth.” Some have already closed, while the others will close by the end of the year.
