Drinkers of Lactaid Milk take note: The manufacturer is recalling the product in over half the U.S. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall on Sept. 20, 2024, which affects gallons of Lactaid Milk made by HP Hood LLC. Here’s everything you need to know.

1. What’s Wrong With the Milk?

The recalled Lactaid Milk has the potential for an undeclared allergen. In this case, there may be traces of almond in the product, which is not disclosed on the label. That means that anyone with a tree nut allergy may have an adverse reaction. Luckily, no one has gotten sick yet. The problem was found during routine maintenance programs.

2. Which Products Are Being Recalled?

The recall is limited to 96-ounce containers of Lactaid Milk which were shipped to retailers and wholesalers from Sept. 5 through Sept. 18, 2024. It includes Lactaid Milk in 2%, 1%, Fat Free, Calcium Enriched Milk, and Whole Milk varieties.

3. Where Was the Milk Sold?

The recalled milk was sold in multiple retail stores in these 27 states: AL, CO, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, TX, VA, WI, and WY.

4. How Can I Tell if My Milk is Recalled?

Recalled Milk will have the code “51-4109 P2” printed under the expiration date on the package, along with one of these expiration dates:

5. What Can I Do If I Have the Recalled Milk?
