Joann Fabrics, the 80-year-old crafts and fabric supplier, is closing all of its remaining stores by the end of May 2025 and ending its nearly century-long run as one of the country’s leading retailers in the space.

Joann began its large-scale shutdown in April, closing 255 stores across the country, including 112 stores locking their doors for good on April 28 alone. The closures came as a part of the court-approved restructuring plan after Joann’s second Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in just one year.
Joann will close its remaining 500+ stores by the end of May across 49 states and go out of business.The closures are being managed by GA Global Partners, a liquidation firm tasked with selling off inventory and assets from each location.
Liquidation sales at closing stores advertise discounts of up to 70%, though according to some customers, markdowns vary by location. Due to overwhelming demand, online shopping has been suspended, and Joann stores stopped accepting gift cards in late February. Teacher and healthcare worker discounts have also been eliminated, and returns and exchanges are no longer accepted as part of the wind-down.
Burlington has agreed to acquire 45 former Joann store locations, with plans to reopen them in May and June. The newly acquired sites span multiple states, including California and Texas. Other retailers such as Hobby Lobby and Boot Barn are also reportedly eyeing former Joann storefronts, as the brand exits the retail landscape entirely.
