Pharmacy chains are closing locations by the hundreds this year. Rite Aid, which filed for bankruptcy in May, has already closed hundreds of locations and is set to close over 200 more. Here’s what we know, including the full list of closures that were just announced in court filings.
Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy in May, 2025, for the second time in less than a year. The chain’s goal was to restructure and reorganize its debts, and it cited financial woes “intensified by the rapidly evolving retail and healthcare landscapes” as the reason for the filing.
Before filing for bankruptcy, the company operated around 1,240 pharmacies across 15 states. It secured $1.9 billion in funding to keep the stores operating during bankruptcy, but has now filed plans for store closures several times in court.
Rite Aid did not announce exactly when the stores on its latest list will close, but stores seem to be closing quickly. Many have already closed, so it’s best to call your local Rite Aid location to verify it’s still open before stopping by.
Rite Aid already announced that 361 locations will close across 14 states. You can see the full list from that late May announcement in our previous story. This new list of 200+ closures is in addition to that list, taking the total number of Rite Aid closures above 500.
