Mold Alert

On October 4, 2024, Lunds & Byerlys issued an urgent recall of its Lone Star Dip due to potential mold contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. If you’ve got this zesty dip in your fridge, you might want to take a closer look.

What's Going On With the Dip Recall?

The Minnesota-based grocery store chain voluntarily recalled 500 containers of its Lone Star Dip because of potential mold issues. The FDA says the affected containers were sold at Lunds & Byerlys in the Twin Cities area and nearby locations.

Why Is This Dip Being Recalled?

The dip is being pulled from shelves after store employees spotted signs of mold in some Lone Star containers and reported it to the company’s quality assurance team.

What Is the Lone Star Dip?

The recalled product is an $8.99 dip made with cream cheese, salsa, tarragon, and fresh lemon juice. According to the company's website, it's the perfect addition to your favorite sandwich, wrap, or tortilla chips — as long as there's no mold on it.

How To Tell If Your Dip Is Recalled?

The moldy dips come in 12-ounce containers with a Universal Product Code (UPC) of 18169-74197 and best-by dates of Oct. 15 and Oct. 17.

What Should You Do If You Have It?

In a statement, Lunds & Byerlys advised that "If a customer recently purchased the impacted product, they are encouraged to return it to any Lunds & Byerlys store for a full refund (no receipt required) or destroy the product immediately."
