We all see big food recalls in the news sometimes, but food manufacturers issue product recalls more often than you might expect. Sometimes they're for mislabeling issues, but they also happen when there's the potential to make people very sick


We've waded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Food & Drug Administration lists of recalls and found the major ones that might still affect food in your kitchen or freezer right now. To stay on top of food recalls, check FoodSafety.gov for up-to-date information.

Infant Formula

Risk: Excess levels of Vitamin D

Perrigo Company is recalling 16,500 cans of store brand Premium Infant Formula with Iron Milk-Based Powder because of Vitamin D levels above the maximum allowed. The formula is sold at CVS and H-E-B stores in 12 states. The recalled CVS product will have "T11LMYC – USE BY 11NOV2025" stamped on the bottom of the can, and the recalled H-E-B product will have "T11LMXC – USE BY 11NOV2025" or "T09LMXC – USE BY 09NOV2025".

Palmer Candy Company has issued a recall of a number of white-coated confectionary items because they may be contaminated with salmonella. The items include yogurt pretzels, drizzled caramel corn, and munch medley mixes, among many others. The products were distributed in 17 states at Walmart, HyVee, Target, and Dollar General under a number of brand names.

Wiers Farm has recalled whole and bagged salad cucumbers it handled and distributed due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The whole cucumbers with a pack date of June 5, 2024 and 2-pound bagged salad cucumbers with a pack date of June 5, 2024 and June 6, 2024 were sold at Walmart stores in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio.

The recalled 5.6-ounce glass jars were distributed in stores nationwide and have a "BEST BEFORE” date of “2024 JL 11” or later with lot numbers of 3031, 3080, 3270, and 3297.

Hudson Harvest has recalled its 16-ounce jars of Tomato Basil Sauce because of reports of swelling, leaking, or bursting jars. That likely means the jars were not processed correctly, and could lead to spoilage or pathogens. The jars were sold in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts and are marked with lot 1042426 and UPC 683720301567.

Pork and Beef Bacon Products

Consumers in Kentucky and Tennessee are being advised to throw out pork and beef bacon products from Farmstead Butcher Block. During a routine inspection, the USDA found that levels of sodium nitrite exceeded the regulatory limit. Ten different products are affected, and were sold between April 12 and May 31.

UBS Food Distributors has recalled 7-ounce plastic jars of Baraka brand Ground Black Pepper because it has the potential to be contaminated with salmonella. The product was distributed nationwide and has an expiration date of January 2026 on the back of the label.

Cargill Beef has recalled approximately 16,000 pounds of ground beef products due to possible contamination with E. coli. The products were produced on April 26 and 27 and were shipped to Walmart locations nationwide. Six different products were recalled, and all bear the establishment number "EST. 86P" on the back of the package.

Raw pork chorizo from San Antonio Packing Company may be contaminated with hard plastic and metal pieces. The 12-ounce packages of Apco brand chorizo were produced on February 12 and distributed to H-E-B store in Texas. The manufacturer of Trader Joe's Chicken Soup Dumplings, CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corporation, has recalled its frozen dumplings nationwide because they may contain hard plastic from a permanent marker. The affected 6-ounce packaged have lot codes “03.07.25.C1-1” and “03.07.25.C1-2” printed on the side of the box and establishment number “P-46009” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
