The White Stuff

Wraps are made out of all kinds of things these days, so why not throw egg whites into the mix? Egglife has cracked the code on how to make wraps out of egg whites, and they’re doing it well. Egglife's egg white wraps contain virtually no carbs or saturated fat, meaning they're perfect for keto, paleo, and a bunch of other trendy diets. And with 5 grams of protein in each, they serve as a solid foundation for a high-protein breakfast.

But with six flavors available and only a one week window to eat them once they’re opened, which should you choose? I tried every single flavor Egglife offers, and ranked them based on taste and texture. Here are the best Egglife egg white wraps you can buy.

Egglife provided samples for this review. Prices and availability are subject to change.

Best: Everything Bagel

Good for:cream cheese, tomato, smoked salmon

Everything bagel seasoning is a cheat code. Of course this is good. There’s some really fun stuff going on with the texture here, since the seasoning and sesame seeds are right there in the wrap. This gives the wrap a slight crunch, and I’m wild about it. Toss a little tomato and cream cheese in that sucker and you’ve basically got a bagel.

2. Garden Salsa

Good for:breakfast burritos

This wrap is extremely vegetal, but that’s something I happen to like. It’s actually pretty close to a Bloody Mary in flavor. I figured this would be the best choice to run the does-this-make-a-good-breakfast-burrito test, so I rolled one up with some cheddar cheese and microwaved it for about 30 seconds. Once I cleaned all the remnants of exploded cheddar cheese out of my microwave, I tasted it.

Honestly, it works. The egg became the consistency of a fried egg that’s been left sitting on your plate for about 10 minutes at a diner. The whole thing reminded me of a fast-food breakfast experience, and there’s really nothing wrong with that. Choose this flavor if you’re not thinking about adding any additional salsa.

3. Original

Good for:breakfast, cheese, tomato

No flavors here, buddy. It’s just you and the egg white wrap. They’re incredibly odd. Texturally, Egglife wraps aren’t that much different than injera, the spongey, pillowy flatbread common in Ethiopian food. It’s pretty close to a thin, crepe-like pancake.

Structurally, they’re certainly strong enough to make a taco or sandwich. Original doesn’t taste like much, but I can see the utility of how well it can provide the backbone of a quick breakfast.

4. Southwest Style

Good for:cured meats, chutney, yogurt

This tastes far more like Indian food than the flavors of the American southwest, if that’s what they’re going for. This is a cumin blast like you wouldn’t believe, and the food that this wrap reminds me of most is a papadam.

A little chutney might be a hit inside this one. Or just turn back towards the Bobby Flay flavor profile and make yourself a little corn and black bean salsa.

5. Italian Style

Good for:hot dogs, sausages

You can taste oregano, peppers, onion, and all the usual suspects in Italian seasoning. This packs quite an Italian punch, and I can see this potentially overwhelming the flavor of anything you put inside.

I can’t imagine myself eating Egglife outside of breakfast time, so this might be a bit too savory for me to want to grab again. But then again, I just thought about wrapping an Italian sausage inside and now my wheels are spinning.

6. Sweet Cinnamon

Good for:dessert, I suppose

These things are super weird in general, but it’s not until you’re standing in your kitchen alone with the dessert flavor until you realize just how weird they are. Sweet Cinnamon is definitely very sweet. I guess I’m not really sure what the idea is here. Is this for a crepe or a Swedish pancake or something?

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do Egglife wraps last?

The package states that, once opened, these wraps should be eaten with a week.

What is Egglife made of?

Egglife wraps are 95% egg white, believe it or not.

Is Egglife gluten-free?

Egglife wraps are 100% gluten-free.

Can you toast Egglife wraps?

“Warming” is probably a better way to think about it. They’ll handle 10-second bursts in the microwave pretty well, or you can toss them in a skillet for 20-30 seconds, too.

A couple of Egglife's own recipes call for frying, so it looks like that works as well.

Can you freeze Egglife wraps?

According to the company website, you can freeze them for up to about three months.
