Where People Retire Earliest

When you can expect to retire and how long you’ll spend out of the workforce has a lot to do with where you live. Cheapism used data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development to identify 30 countries where the normal retirement age is younger than that in the United States and see how many years men and women there are expected to spend retired. There isn’t always a direct correlation. Some of it has to do with life expectancy, of course, but social, political, and economic factors also affect the calculations. One pattern, however, is constant globally: Men almost never retire younger than women, or spend more years in retirement.
