One of the advantages of traveling by RV is that you can bring your dog everywhere you go. It's where to stop that becomes more of a challenge. Some RV campgrounds don't allow pets, many allow dogs, and there are some that especially welcome them. We looked around the country at dog-friendly RV parks that travelers with pets recommend. A few RV writers even gave Cheapism personal recommendations.

Massey's Landing | Millsboro, Delaware

GetawayCouple's Rae and Jason Miller recommend this RV park on the shores of Rehoboth Bay. "Massey's Landing in Delaware has a two-park dog park on the beach," the Millers told Cheapism. "One is a big sandy box that gives your dog plenty of space to run around in the sand, but the other is a U-shape and goes right into the bay." Their dog, Carmen, "loved running around and splashing in the water. A shower was definitely required before heading back to the RV to clean off all that wet sand though!"

Joe and Kait Russo of We're The Russos say Disney's RV campground is the Disney World of RV parks for pets. "The large property has beautiful paths to take your dog on a walk, and a fenced in dog park where they can run around," the Russos told us. "There are tall trees that offer shade throughout the day and lots of grassy areas to choose from. We especially enjoyed exploring the campground with our dog and meeting Disney fans from all over the world."

Rae and Jason Miller also recommend Yellowstone Grizzly for its proximity to Yellowstone National Park. "Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park is right outside the west entrance to Yellowstone and is a great park for your pup," they say. "It is located adjacent to a national forest with tons of pet-friendly hiking trails. You can access them right from the park."

4 Paws Kingdom Campground & Dog Retreat | Rutherfordton, North Carolina

This 34-acre RV campground specifically for dog owners had to make this list, of course. Kenny and Sabrina Phillips, writers for Winnebago Life, stayed there this year and raved about the "yards" fenced in for each RV site. Of the eight dog parks, their Belle preferred the shaded one and the park with the big pond. They took advantage of the bathing station after Belle had a busy day, and the lure park features a bag on a cable that pups can chase. Co-owner Meik Bartoschek told North Carolina Field and Family of 4 Paws' guests, "We have people who just love their dogs and just want to be with the dogs any which way they can. We also have a group who does dog sports and are serious about it. They come to us because they can combine the vacation, relaxing idea, plus an hour or two of training, which you won't find anywhere else."

Coleen Sykora, publisher of both RV Life and Travel and Workers on Wheels, has stayed at the Seward Waterfront RV Park with her husband, Bob, and their dog. "Seward has miles of walking trails, much of it right along the oceanfront," Sykora told Cheapism. "At only $20 per night, and no extra pet fee, it's an Alaska camping bargain. Scenery is spectacular!"

Escondido RV Resort | Escondido, California

Escondido RV Resort has shown up on lists of the best dog-friendly RV parks by Tripsavvy and Good Sam Club. The resort was always pet-friendly, but went the extra mile in 2013, adding a one-third-acre dog park. With a fire hydrant and other toys to play on, dogs will be in heaven in this fenced oasis where you can let them off leash.

Garden of the Gods RV Resort | Colorado Springs, Colorado

Garden of the Gods Park allows dogs on a six-foot leash, and the nearby Garden of the Gods RV Resort allows all dogs that aren't "vicious" — they do have a blanket policy, however, that certain breeds such as Dobermans, Rottweilers, and pit bulls cannot stay at the resort. WagWalking points out that the resort has a "bark park" where dogs can run around off leash. And Belinda Jones of Bodie on the Road stopped in the park to enjoy the red rocks, and points out that not only is the park dog-friendly, but also free. Jones recommends dogs and their owners explore nearby Bear Creek Dog Park as well.

Airport Park Campground | Concordia, Kansas

The city of Concordia thought about four-legged travelers when they put a dog park in its campground. That's what attracted the Sykoras. "Disc golf, a playground, and lots of room make this a fun park for young and old," Sykora says. "Not only do they have a fenced doggie park — they have two. One is for small dogs and the other is for larger dogs."

Acadiana Park Campground | Lafayette, Louisiana

Acadiana Park is rated dog-friendly by Good Sam, and the Sykoras enjoy its local bayou culture. "This campground puts us in the heart of Cajun country," Sykora says. "It is conveniently located in Lafayette. It's a gated park."

Normandy Farms Family Camping Resort | Foxboro, Massachusetts

The Dyrt called Normandy Farms "The Gold Standard of resort camping," and a big reason for that was their offerings for pets and owners. For the dogs, there's a 1.5-acre dog park, and kennel rentals for the owners. There's also a designated area for smaller dogs under 30 pounds. The Dyrt also raves about the 23 miles of trails to walk, and fishing ponds for paddling around with your pup.

The fact that the campground boasts a dog run bodes well for canine guests. The Sykoras recommend Turkey Creek for the nearby water and its friendly Midwestern caretakers. "Our dog loved walking along the creek," Sykora says. "This is our 'go-to' park when visiting Branson, Missouri. The campground staff are particularly friendly. The park is conveniently located to take in the sites and sounds of the area."

Good Sam has often named this Amish country RV park one of the best in the country. The only place on site dogs aren't allowed is the Matter House lodge. The resort has a dog-grooming service on site, but you and your pup will probably want to run around the fields and get dirty.

The self-proclaimed "RV Capital" of Port Isabel has plenty of water activities for humans, but the Sykoras note their pup enjoys Port Isabel's enclosed bark park. "It's a fenced area for dogs to play. It's monitored with a camera, helping to ensure the park stays clean," Sykora says. "This park is a convenient, less expensive option to South Padre Island, which is immediately across the causeway."

Anchor Down recommends local company Luv UR Pet Sitters if guests want to take a day trip to nearby Dollywood, but the campground itself has plenty for the canine guests, too. "Anchor Down RV Resort has an amazing dog park that includes a built-in agility course and other exercise/play equipment for your dog, and a covered seating area for you," the Millers say.

Wilderness Road Campground at Cumberland Gap | Ewing, Virginia

Wilderness Road Campground allows dogs on leashes and you'll want to keep them on a leash, too, because bears roam freely in the nearby woods. Amy Burkert, GoPetFriendly founder and author of "The Ultimate Pet Friendly Road Trip," recommends parking here to walk your dog. "I love Wilderness Road Campground at Cumberland Gap because it gives you access to the nearly 85 miles of pet-friendly hiking trails in Cumberland Gap National Historical Park," she says.

Dane County Parks | Madison, Wisconsin

The Dane County Parks welcome dogs, and that's why Burkert recommends choosing a spot in one of the five dog-friendly campgrounds there, where campsite reservations include a complimentary daily dog permit good for the duration of the stay. The parks, says Burkert, "give you easy access to the city of Madison and all that it has to offer. The park system has some great off-leash dog parks," but, she notes, "they're not always located in the same parks as the campgrounds."
