If you pay attention to the video-sharing platform TikTok, you might have noticed recent excitement about something called Magic Shaving Powder.

The company that makes it, Softsheen-Carson, creates hair care and grooming products primarily directed toward people of color. The powder last made news in late 2018 when U.S. Sen. Cory Booker noted that he often got stopped when carrying it through airport security.

Most recently, it blew up on TikTok for its ability to remove hair without the use of a razor. That's right — razorless shaving. Sound familiar? Remember Nair's "Who Wears Short Shorts?" Well, it's like that, but better, say those who've tested it. Magic Shaving Powder is a depilatory powder that you mix with cool water to form a paste, then apply to the skin, let dry, and wipe off. And, supposedly, voila — no more hair!

But does it work? Well, according to the TikTok community — like this person, and this one, and this woman — yes. And, not only does it work, but it helps prevent razor bumps and razor burn.

The best part: Magic Shaving Powder normally costs less than $2 at Walmart — when it's in stock (Buy It). It's become so popular that it's sold out virtually everywhere. (And watch out for Walmart switching to third-party sellers, which raised the cost to $10 when we looked.) You can check out stores in your own area, or you can preorder it off Amazon (where it costs a bit more but should still sell for less than $4) — for when it’s back in stock June 7 (Buy It).

Softsheen-Carson also sells formulas such as extra strength, a Magic Fragrant Shaving Powder, and a version with aloe and vitamin E.

As with all new skin care products, you should test the powder depilatory on a small patch of skin before using it widely. You want to make sure it's safe and you don't experience any side effects — especially if you have sensitive skin.
