SWIM IN STYLE

When shopping for swimsuits, you might wonder why a few scraps of material from luxury lines carry such sky-high price tags -- especially when major retailers such as JC Penney, Target, H and M, and Forever 21 sell fashionable swimwear for far less. In advance of the upcoming swimsuit season, Cheapism.com spotted eight trending styles and matched an upmarket design with a bargain-priced version. Our seasonal picks include hot prints and summer colors, as well as classic and attention-grabbing designs.

THE LOOK: MONOKINI

Get beach ready in an eye-catching black monokini from Tory Burch for the eye-popping price of $195. The Solid Wrapped One-Piece, made of nylon and spandex, features a plunging neckline with a sexy open back and full coverage on the seat.

FOR LESS: MONOKINI

But for nearly $200 less -- that would be $12.54, to be exact -- online vendor Pink Queen sells a sexy black one-piece cut-out monokini made of 65 percent cotton and 35 percent polyester. It provides full seat coverage and features a plunging neckline and open back with a string tie.

THE LOOK: FLORAL PRINT

Spend $395 to channel the tropics with the Jean Paul Gaultier Gathered Floral-Print Underwire Bikini. The floral microfiber features an attractive gathered mesh overlay, a sweetheart neckline, and a low-rise bottom with full seat coverage.

Instead, get your floral fix for a budget-friendly $30 from the website Lolli Couture. The purple Floral High Waist Bikini sports a similarly vibrant print and features a padded top with sweetheart neckline, removable halter straps, and high-waist bottom.

THE LOOK: CORAL BIKINI

Hit the beach in one of the hottest colors this season in Sauvage Swimwear's Solid Lotus Coral bikini after shelling out $190. This little number is cut in the brand's classic skimpy silhouette, with added flair from a rose gold chain adorning the triangle top and the bottom strings.

FOR LESS: CORAL BIKINI

If you'd rather add your own flair, weave a chain into Missguided's Moulded Triangle Bikini Top. This $24 swimsuit comes in the same bright coral shade as the luxury model and likewise ties behind the neck and back. A mix and match option lets you choose a neutral bottom for $16.

THE LOOK: ANIMAL PRINT

If you're feeling fierce and ready to rock with an animal print, check out the Carmen Marc Valvo Animal Print Bikini. Currently selling for $57, reduced from $81, the bikini top features flex-fit underwire for extra support; matching hipster bottoms add $43 to the final tab. The brown and white mix of spots and stripes will surely bring out that jungle fever.

FOR LESS: ANIMAL PRINT

Show off your spots with a classic leopard print two-piece from Forever 21. The Twist-Front Bandeau top with removable straps is sold separately from the Leopard Side-Loop Bikini Bottoms. Each piece is tagged at just less than $11.

THE LOOK: TRIBAL BANDEAU

Tribal prints are all the rage right now, whether on sweaters, leggings, or blouses. Add an eclectic tribal pattern to your swimwear collection with the L*Space Electric Coral Byrdie Bikini. This bright combo costs $145 and features a patterned bandeau- style top with intricate criss-cross ties in the back and side ruches on the Brazilian-cut bottom.

FOR LESS: TRIBAL BANDEAU

If you love the bright tribal look but not the designer price, opt for the taupe and neon yellow Tribal Print Bikini from Forever 21. The bandeau top comes with optional halter straps and sells for $11. The matching bottom, with side loop cutouts, is on sale for less than $9.

THE LOOK: BLACK STRING HALTER BIKINI

Like the sexy black dress, the black string bikini is a sexy classic on the beach. Flaunt your sensual side at the startling price of $538 with the Reminiscence Triangle Bikini Top by La Perla. (Matching high-rise bikini briefs go for $554.) This bikini half is made of ultra-light Lycra and features delicate strips of microfiber for a peek-a-boo effect.

FOR LESS: BLACK STRING HALTER BIKINI

If you're loving the look but not the shockingly exorbitant price, try Maykool's Halter Strappy Sexy Bikini Swimsuit for a mere $18 (that includes the top and bottom). Available in black, this model features a halter tie, sexy strappy accents on both halves, and a sweetheart bra with underwire.

THE LOOK: POLKA DOT SWIM DRESS

If more coverage is more your style, there's always the swimdress. Opt for the vintage look with the black-and-white polka dot Bali Check Swim Dress from Profile by Gottex. The ruffle trim, bandeau neckline, and side ruching make for an elegant and demure one-piece suit, priced at $142.

FOR LESS: POLKA DOT SWIM DRESS

Mosey on over to Kmart where you can go retro for $40 with the Jaclyn Smith Women's Shirred Swim Dress. This blue and white polka dot suit features shirred side detailing, a ruffled skirt hem, and a deep V neckline. You'll swim smoothly with the concealed, attached briefs and comfortably fixed shoulder straps.

THE LOOK: SVELTE ONE-PIECE

One-piece swimsuits never go out of style and can be as alluring as the tiniest bikini. The Meriell Mint Seduction One Piece has it all -- for $139. The upper half of the suit features molded cups and push-up support, with peek-a-boo detailing running down the front; the bottom half design is cut to fit just so.

FOR LESS: SVELTE ONE-PIECE

A close cousin in the budget market comes from Kmart, where you can grab the Joe Boxer Women's Crochet Swimsuit in mint wasabi for less than $18. This is technically a monokini, but the crochet overlay lends the appearance of a one-piece. The cut features a sweetheart neckline, removable halter straps, and shirring in the front.
