Costco Recalls Its Popular Bakery Croissants Due to Possible Metal Pieces

Recall Notice

Costco’s bakery is one of the most popular departments in the store. People gobble up everything from giant chocolate peanut butter pies to everything bagels. The store’s butter croissants are a fan favorite, too, but a notice sent to Costco members who purchased them recently indicates that they’ve been recalled. Here’s what we know.

What’s Wrong with Costco Croissants?

According to the recall notice, it has to do with “potential foreign material in the salt used to make the croissants.” It stems from a recall in Canada by Compass Minerals, the raw material supplier of salt used in bread products, because it may contain metal pieces.

Costco Canada has already recalled a number of bread products for the same reason, but the recall of Butter Croissants is the first related to this issue in the U.S.

How Do I Know if My Croissants Are Recalled?

The recall affects Costco item number 1199652, which are the Kirkland Signature Butter Croissants sold in the bakery. Only certain packages of croissants are recalled, depending on the sell by date.

If your package has a sell-by date between 09/08/24 and 11/10/24, your croissants have been recalled.

What Should I Do if I Have Recalled Croissants?

Costco’s recall notice advises anyone with recalled Butter Croissants to stop eating the product immediately. You can return the package to your local Costco for a full refund. If you have questions, you can contact the store at (800) 955-2292 Monday through Friday 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. PST.

Is This Related to the Costco Butter Recall?

No, this is not related to the recent recall of Costco butter. That is a separate product that Costco sells unrelated to these Butter Croissants from the bakery. That recall was for a rather silly reason: It didn’t have the correct package label that the product “contains milk.”
