Costco recently announced a recall for a couple chocolate protein bars after a major whoopsie-daisy. Two NuGo chocolate protein bars were recalled due to "the potential for undeclared dairy," a major allergen. Not great, NuGo.
Here's what every shopper should know.
NuGo Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip and NuGo Dark Chocolate Pretzel, which are two flavors sold in an 18-piece variety pack, were included in the recall. Specifically, the protein bars with the following "best buy" dates were affected:

The two protein bars were incorrectly labeled without an allergy warning. As it turns out, there's a risk for dairy presence and contamination, and anybody with those types of allergies should steer clear.
In a statement, NuGo shared that "If you have an allergy to dairy do not consume these products. ...Our investigation into these production dates is ongoing but we wanted to notify you as soon as possible. We have process controls in place which are being reinforced to continually deliver our real dark chocolate protein products, certified vegan and pareve."
It’s important to know exactly what’s in your food. People with dairy allergies can have symptoms that range from mildly embarrassing to life-threatening, so anybody grabbing a NuGo bar needs to know exactly what might happen to them if they eat one.
These variety packs were sold at Costco stores in each of these states between October 2nd and November 20th:
Connecticut
Delaware
Massachusetts
Maryland
New Hampshire
New Jersey
New York
Pennsylvania
Virginia
Vermont
Washington, D.C.
