What Product Is Being Recalled?

Chomps ready-to-eat beef sticks and turkey sticks are being recalled by the manufacturer, Idaho Smokehouse Partners. Approximately 29,541 pounds of the product produced between Jan. 13 and 15 are part of the recall, according to the FSIS. They were packaged at a single facility between Jan. 16 and 23, according to the recall website set up by Chomps.

The recalled Chomps packages say “Original Beef Stick” or “Original Turkey Stick” at the top, along with “Mild”. Each beef stick is individually wrapped in its own retail packaging.

Why Are the Snack Sticks Being Recalled?

Some of the Chomps beef sticks “may be contaminated with foreign material, specifically metal,” according to the FSIS. There have been two complaints from consumers that have found pieces of metal in the recalled beef sticks. Fortunately, there have been no injuries or adverse effects reported.

How Do I Tell if My Chomps Sticks Are Recalled?

Both the recalled Chomps beef and turkey sticks are in 1.15-ounce packages. At Costco, the Original Beef Sticks come packaged in a 12-count pouch. To check whether your snack sticks are part of the recall, look for the “EST” code printed under the barcode on the package. Recalled Original Beef Sticks will have an EST code of “6220A”, and recalled Original Turkey Sticks will have an EST code of “P6220A”.

If that matches your package, check the chart on the Chomps recall website to see if the lot code, printed directly after the EST code, is part of the recall.
