Fans of the Mexican Grill, rejoice, chances are, your zip code is getting a new burrito outpost. Chipotle is charging ahead with expansion and plans to open more than 300 new locations in the U.S. and Canada in 2025. After that, they have ambitious plans to open locations in Mexico.

How Many New Chipotle Locations Are Opening?

Chipotle plans to open between 315 and 345 restaurants in 2025, according to its latest earnings report. That would push its total well past 3,700 U.S. locations.

Roughly 80% of the new spots will include a Chipotlane — the chain’s drive-thru-style lane for digital pickup orders.

In Q1 2025 alone, Chipotle opened 57 new company-owned restaurants, 48 of which came with a Chipotlane.

How Is Chipotle Performing In 2025 So Far?

Not too shabby, to say the least. Chipotle reported $2.9 billion in revenue for Q1 2025 — a 6.4% increase from the same quarter last year. But not all the news was spicy. Comparable restaurant sales dropped 0.4%, thanks to a dip in transactions, even as average checks slightly increased. Restaurant-level operating margin also declined from 27.5% to 26.2%, squeezed by higher costs for avocados, dairy, and labor, especially in states like California with rising minimum wages.

“While our first quarter results were impacted by several headwinds including weather and a slowdown in consumer spending, our teams continue to make significant progress improving the execution in our restaurants, innovating our back of house, and building Chipotle into a global iconic brand,” said Scott Boatwright, Chipotle CEO, in the official earnings release.

Is Chipotle Expanding in Other Countries?

Yes — and not just in Canada, which already has 58 locations. Over the past decade and a half, the chain has been slowly expanding in other countries, including France, Germany, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.

Chipotle announced plans to enter Mexico for the first time, with its first restaurant set to open in early 2026 through a partnership with Latin American restaurant group Alsea.

It remains to be seen how receptive customers in Mexico will be to Chipotle. Taco Bell has twice attempted locations in Mexico before closing up shop with pop culture historian Carlos Monsivais, noting at the time, “It’s like bringing ice to the Arctic."
