Highgate Springs, Vermont
Tyler Place, which averages a full 5 stars on TripAdvisor,  is open from the end of May until mid-September. Prices range from $152 to $343 per adult per night, depending on the time of year and accommodations. Located on a mile of lakeshore, the family-friendly resort offers spectacular views and everything from archery to trampolines to farm tours, with plenty of woods for exploring — plus, everybody gets a bike. There are counselors and playgroups for kids, and adults can take classes in yoga and climbing, and there's a spa for post-workout relaxation. Nightly entertainment includes dancing, jazz, and games, along with romantic candlelight dining and cocktails (sitters are available). Family meals are healthy and ample, with an emphasis on farm-to-table fare.

Ivins, Utah
The red rock cliffs, mountains, and canyons of Southern Utah are the backdrop of the Red Mountain Resort. There are two all-inclusive personal discovery retreats (perfect for a romantic getaway or a solo trip), four health and wellness retreats, and four adventure retreats. All of them include three healthy meals every day, as well as daily guided biking, yoga, fitness, and hiking classes. Spa and salon offerings are available in-room on on-site, and excursions are available to the many close-by attractions. Adventure retreats start at $382 per person per night. St. Pete Beach, Florida
A visit to this beautiful beach location won't be soon forgotten. This Gulf Coast resort is ideal for families, reviews say, noting the clean beaches and hotel-quality rooms. Costs range from under $183 a night in the winter to between $300-$500 a night in the summer, depending on accommodations. Sirata Beach enjoys a 4 out of 5 rating averaged from more than 3,500 TripAdvisor reviews. It has plenty of oceanfront amenities like beach volleyball, cabanas, and a fire pit and rooms with spa tubs. The resort, which recently underwent a $15 million renovation, features three restaurants, where package guests enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including well drinks all day long. Guest room options range from oversized studios to one-bedrooms and beach-facing rooms for beautiful views. The luxury beach resort welcomes cats and dogs, but the number of pet-friendly rooms is limited and restrictions apply.

Philipsburg, Montana
The Ranch at Rock Creek claims to be "the world's first Forbes Travel Guide five-star guest ranch," a boast it reinforces with a perfect 5 rating on TripAdvisor, as well. That's because of all-inclusive amenities like farm-to-table cuisine from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and unlimited premium liquor, beer, and wine. Daily guided activities perfect for the family and all guests are included in every package, as is evening entertainment. Signature activities include horseback riding, shooting sports, fly fishing, and yoga. There are also trail adventures like mountain biking, hiking, and archery, as well as family-friendly activities like stagecoach rides, rodeo, and wildlife viewing. Per-night rates at the ranch for two people range between $2,000-$2,700 in the winter and $3,200-$4,000 during the peak season, with spring and autumn rates generally falling somewhere in between.

Santa Barbara, California
Operating only in summer, this highly rated, weeklong camp costs about $1,290 for adults and less for children — the younger the child, the lower the rate. The room accommodations are what you'd expect from college dorms instead of hotels, but with all the activities offered, guests don't spend much time in them. Camps for kids, organized by age group, feature kayaking, horseback riding, surfing lessons, tennis, and field trips. Other family-friendly options include a pool with a water slide, bike and scooter riding, and arts and crafts classes and activities. Golden Isles, Georgia
Seclusion, stunning natural beauty, remarkable views, and gracious hospitality are the name of the game at The Lodge on Little St. Simon's Island, which dominates the finest among a chain of islands off the coast of Georgia. Boasting 11,000 acres of virgin wilderness and seven miles of pristine beaches at this luxury resort, the island lodge offers rooms, cottages, or even full-island rentals. All-inclusive packages include daily breakfast, lunch, hors d’ oeuvres, dinner, snacks, and unlimited soft drinks. Recreational equipment like kayaks, bicycles, and motorized skiffs are also part of the deal. Rates vary by time of year and accommodations, but two adults can reserve a four-day stay in May for $725 per night per person. According to TripAdvisor, which gives it its best rating of a perfect 5, the experience is well worth the money, especially for a grand island retreat. 

Potosi, Missouri
Run by the YMCA of the Ozarks, Trout Lodge is a year-round lodge retreat on a lake with guest rooms and cabins for larger families. Rooms are on the rustic side, and meals are simple and served buffet-style, but reviewers posting on TripAdvisor give the lodge an average rating of 4.5 out of 5. Because this is a not-for-profit operation, prices are low. Rooms (choose between hotel-style and cabin lodging for your visit) for up to five guests at the lodge start at $99 in the winter and spring, including meals as part of the package. Activities are water-centric, particularly in the summer, although there are other amusements such as zip-lining and arts and crafts. The lodge hosts themed vacation weekends throughout the year, so plan your visit accordingly 

Hawley, Pennsylvania
Woodloch Resort offers a full roster of activities year-round and a range of accommodations to suit different budgets. As with much of the Poconos and other northern parts of the United States, the colder months come with a focus on skiing, tubing, snowshoeing, and other winter sports families love, but there are also plenty of indoor amenities, such as a pool, spa, basketball court, and climbing wall. Port St. Lucie, Florida
Active families who love sports flock to this all-inclusive resort on Florida's east coast. More than 3,500 TripAdvisor ratings combine for an average 4 out of 5 for this Club Med location,  with the best praise for the food and attentive staff. Programs in tennis, sailing, and golf are included, as is a flying trapeze academy with circus activities. The resort hosts activities for all ages, with child care for children under 6 and a special club for teens. A spa offers extra relaxation. Meals, including alcohol, are available at a variety of restaurants. Packages start at $1,434 per week per adult.

Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin
The big attractions at Chula Vista are the water parks — all 200,000 square feet of them. Bandera, Texas
This ranch in Texas Hill Country is all about the horses, and families who travel here will be treated to beautiful views and western warmth. Packages include two trail rides a day, one of which takes guests to breakfast. In addition to riding, guests have access to a pool, fishing, tennis, golf, and other activities. There is nightly entertainment, along with contests, hayrides, and barbecues. Meals are hearty, and beer, wine, and soda are included. Adventure retreats start at $185 per person per night.  Starksboro, Vermont
For people looking for a community-minded experience, Common Ground offers a variety of weeklong summer camp experiences and special, themed camp programs. TripAdvisor reviewers give this unusual camp a 5 out of 5 rating overall. Various arts, music, and nature pursuits are available for kids, as well as games, swimming, and other water activities. Yoga, dance, and movement classes entice children and adults alike. Community service of some kind is required for three hours during the week. Meals are vegetarian and made with food from local farms. Pricing is on a sliding scale based on ability to pay, with scholarships available. The most basic accommodation — a tent — costs $825-$1,250 for adults for a week, less for kids. Prices in cabins or the lodge (with electricity) are higher.

Lincoln, New Hampshire
There are a variety of places to stay at Indian Head Resort, including cottages and motel-like rooms in the main building. Located on 180 acres in the White Mountains, the resort is open year-round, with special spring and Memorial Day packages in the coming weeks. A family resort with a rustic atmosphere, Fair Hills averages a 4.5 out of 5 rating on TripAdvisor. Open from May to September, accommodations are mainly in cabins around the resort's central lake. Sports and activity weeks are planned throughout summer. Activities are organized by age groups, with sandcastle building and fishing for young children; kickball, soccer, and capture the flag for teens; and golf, tennis, and hiking for adults. The resort organizes talent shows, hootenannies, and other camp happenings, as well. Three meals a day are included and prices start at less than $200 a night per adult. The cost is less for children, and kids under 5 are free most nights, and weekly packages offer new deals as they become available. 

Sebago Lake, Maine
This lakefront vacation spot has a main lodge and 35 cabins of various sizes among an expanse of pine trees. Although the resort offers activities for children, this is a good place for adults to unwind, especially outside the summer months. Guests of all ages can indulge in hiking, sailing, water skiing, tennis, golf, and fishing. There are camp counselors for kids and family activities such as campfires and bingo. Food is locally sourced, with lunch cookouts and cocktails available daily. This being Maine, the lodge naturally hosts a Friday-night lobster bake. Kids can eat separately and enjoy supervised playtime during the adult dinner hour. Prices depend on the time of year and size of the cottage. In early autumn, the cost is about $298 to $356 per person daily for a one-bedroom cottage, depending on the cottage and time of year, including all meals and activities. Highland, New York
Although the focus at Rocking Horse Ranch is horseback riding for all skill levels, including pony rides for young children, there are indoor activities for rainy days and plenty of other things to do year-round. In the winter, guests can go tubing, skating, skiing, and snowboarding and take horse-drawn sleigh rides. The ranch averages better than 4.5 out of 5 in ratings on TripAdvisor, with users highlighting the family atmosphere and impressive range of activities, including water sports, day camps, and a spa. Skytop, Pennsylvania
A year-round playground that appeals to families, Skytop Lodge emphasizes sports and other activities such as skiing, ice fishing, and dog sledding in the winter. There are daily events for kids, including snowman-building, movies, and campfires. In summer, guests can explore hiking trails and take part in water and land sports and activities, including archery, paintball, rock climbing, and wilderness survival.
