Cut from the ribs of the cow, prime rib is a roast, not a steak -- and it's one of the most popular cuts of beef in America. April 27 is National Prime Rib Day, and every day of the year restaurants across the country serve prime rib as a special (some just for early bird diners). Here are some of the best prime rib nights across the country.

Joe Wheeler State Park Restaurant, Alabama

Every Friday night from 5 to 8, the restaurant at Joe Wheeler State Park in Rogersville hosts a prime rib buffet. The $19 price tag includes coffee and water; soft drinks add $1.95 to the bill.

Ivory Jack's, Alaska

Located in the business district of Fairbanks, Ivory Jack's hosts prime rib night every Friday. The $28 price buys a 14-ounce cut of slow-roasted beef served with au jus. Add deep-fried shrimp or Alaskan king crab legs for an extra charge.

What's better than prime rib night? Five prime rib nights a week. The Parkwest Casino in Sonoma runs a $10 prime rib special Sunday through Thursday starting at 4 p.m. It includes an 8-ounce prime rib, choice of soup or salad, and a starch or vegetable.

Quincy's Steak & Spirits, Colorado

In Leadville there are two chances a week for high-end beef at Quincy's. Friday and Saturday prime rib dinners start at $10, with the chance to upgrade to a larger portion for a few bucks more.
